Management Process Universal and can be applied across any
industry.
PMI Global Standards in project management, Guide to
project management body of knowledge PMBoK 2013
defines the 5 process groups in project management as:
Initiation
Planning

5. Project Initiation Process
There are two key things happening in project initiation
process:
Identify Stakeholders
Issue Project Charter – Project Charter give the
project go-ahead authority, and appoint the Project
Manager and the Key members of the team
Best Practice:A business case or project justification is
required before the project charter.

Project charter document will include;
Project purpose
High-level Project and Product description
High-level Project requirements
High-level milestones and the Budget
Assumptions and Constraints
Name of the project manager appointed, sponsor and
other key people
Approval

7. Project Stakeholders
Let’s start with identifying stakeholders.
Identify all project stakeholders at the initiation stage of
the project.And,Analyze stakeholders interests and
involvement and the level of influence they have on the
project
Stakeholders are individuals and organizations who has a
positive or negative influence in our projects.

9. Project Planning
• Project Planning involves all aspects of planning in the
project to meet the expected deliverables
• Today, with more agile and adaptive approaches being
introduced in to Project Management, the question has
raised how much planning is required. But no one says,
planning is not required.
• Adequate planning is a key for the successful
implementation of any project.

10. Importance of Planning and
Project Management Plan
The Project Management Plan is a must for large
projects or strategically important projects. It
documents the strategies used to manage the project,
which is selected by the Project ManagementTeam
It will document all the plans and will describes how
work will be executed to accomplish the project
objectives

11. Planning Project Scope
There are three steps:
1. Collect Requirements : Understanding all
project requirements from all the
stakeholders and documenting them in
Requirement documents.
2. Define Scope and document in Scope
Statement
3. CreateWBS : to include all project
deliverables. If something is not in theWBS,
it is outside the scope.

areas of planning
Project planning must be considered on all aspects of
project management;10 knowledge areas, before
moving in to execution.

16. Project Execution, Monitoring and
Controlling
When project plans are approved and the project start its
execution, work needs to be monitored and changes must
be managed and controlled.
Changes are managed with Integrated Change Control
system.
Change Request forms and CR Log are the frequently used
tools in change control process.

17. Project Closing Process
When project delivers what it committed to deliver
project will be accepted by the client and project
closure will be performed.
