Total Film Magazine Contents page
Total Film Magazine Contents page
• The top of the magazines contents page is titled across the top left hand side of the page in a large font to highlight this is the contents page which is double spread.
• Direct above this is titles de the magazines issue number and date of publication ‘#254 February 2017’ in a red font in theme with the colour scheme of the magazine which is
black, red and white.
• The main image of this contents page holds s great impact as it takes up the whole centre of the double spread contents page so you are drawn to it immediately. It shows a image of
the famous actor Keanu Reeves who is additionally in the main image of the magazines cover as the magazine contains exclusives of the film ‘ John Wick 2’ – it is a preview of the main
feature inside the magazine.
• The main image within the contents page is a profile shot of the actor as this is an exclusive magazine which features on a movie of which he is the main character he is dressed in a black
suit which connotes ambiguity and alludes to the idea of mystery (in theme with the character he plays within the film) and in addition to this the background is blurred and out of focus,
highlighting the importance of the actor himself as he is highlighted as the magazines main feature.
• The titles of the columns are written in a bold black font in keeping with the magazines colour scheme and stand out drawing attention to the information displayed and beneath each
consists a brief description of what each page displayed in this format entails.
• The columns are organised in terms of topics and used are in the same colour scheme of the magazine (red boxes with a white font ). It matches the theme of the magazine as well as this
it makes each section stand out.
• There is an additional image placed on the bottom left of the magazine of the magazine of a character from a children’s film called ‘Moana’ which slightly disrupts the column layout and
has a page number next to it as this is a main character to a popular children’s movie.
• On the second page there are two images along side the ‘contents’ title and underneath there are an additional three images that are from sciences of recognisable movies such as
‘Moana’ as previously mentioned. Each image is a representation of the film title itself as has a page number along side it. Whilst this is a more unique way to display the movie titles
(page number) it also is an efficient way for the reader to scan through the contents page and also allows the reader to have a visual representation of what films are featured within the
magazine.
• The page numbers along side/ on each image is placed in a circled white – filled text box with the page number inside is a black bold font which is clear and easy to identify on top of the
film image and is additionally is kept within the colour scheme of the magazine which is red, black and white.
• There is a small description below each content line which provides the audience with a preview of the main feature inside the magazine. Furthermore, to assist the audience, the page
number is along side this on the left of each content line in a red coloured font which stands out against the white background keeping with the red, black and white colour scheme and as
it is in a red colour it is easily identifiable as a page number as it stands out on the contents page.

SciFiNow Magazine Contents page
(1st page of double spread)
• The top of the magazine’s content page features the magazines masthead and iconic planet image/logo and along side this is the issue number ‘171’ in bold text to draw the
readers attention to this page
• Underneath this is titled ‘contents’ in a smaller less dramatic, ‘calibri regular’ font as the reader is already aware this is the contents page this is less important information and is
therefore less eye catching.
• The magazines content page is double spread and is therefore easier to read and has a greater balance between images and text and the audience will not feel
overwhelmed with information due to its higher visibility and builds brand awareness because of increased memorability, advertising success also increases.
• Each content line is organised under headings which are titled and in a black – filled text box and inside each has the category of what the reader may be looking
for in a white font; ‘looking ahead’, ‘features’, ‘Reviews’, ‘Revisit’ and ‘Book club’ are the subtitles on the first of the double spread contents page all in one column.
This is purposely done and is effective as it is the first thing the reader will view as we naturally read from left to right so ones attention immediately goes straight to
this column.
• Underneath each of these titled content lines consists more, page specific content lines. Before each content line the page number is specified in a red font in
keeping with the red, black and white colour theme. As the magazines contents page is on a whit background and the content lines are written in a bold black font
this allows the page numbers to simultaneously stand out but is in a thin font in order to note overpower the content lines to allow the reader to efficiently read
through the content page and find what they desire easily.
• Both the titles and content lines are capitalised to stand out to add to the efficient way to scan the page for what the reader wishes to find as this stands out and is
as it is highly visible and allows easy reading, standing out on the page.
• One cover line is boxed off in a red filled text box and both the page number and additional information on what you will find on the page is written in a white font to
stand out in contrast to the red background and the page number font is larger. This is purposely done in order to draw attention to this page as it is the main
feature of the magazine so this highlights what page the main feature of the magazine ‘UPLOAD’ is on page ’32’.
• In addition to highlighting the main feature by making the page number stand out the whole right side of the magazine consists of two images.
• The first image is just slightly above but still along side the magazines main features contents line and as it is the biggest image it is the main image as it is a image
in relation to the magazines main feature as it is an image of the main character of the film of the film magazines main feature ‘UPLOAD’ and on the bottom part of
the image the film ‘UPLOAD’ is titled again in the same white font and is still capitalised and bold also on the left side of this film name the page number is placed
on the image too in a red – filled circle sized text box and the page number is in the same font as the film titled along side it on the image (‘UPLOAD’) and is in the
same white colour in keeping with the red, black and white colour scheme.
SciFiNow Magazine Contents page
(2nd page of double spread)
• On the second page of the double spread there is less writing and only one column which is less
than half the length of the page.
• Each image is rather large and on the left corner of each number a page number is displayed in a
white colour – filled text box and within in consists the page number in the same large black and
bold font in keeping with the magazines theme and colour scheme it is also effective as black
stands out against the white contrast fob the text box placed on the darker coloured images
drawing the readers attention to what page number the film image is related too. This visual aid.
The balance between images and text allows the reader to not feel overwhelmed yet still conveys
the key information in terms of contents and what film/topic is on what page in relation to the
image.
• There is only one column on this page which is less than half the length of the size of the page
and is titled ‘MEET THE TEAM’ in the same format as the rest of the titles and details profile
pictures of team members and images of the team members. This column is in the same font type
and colour scheme as the others but as it is not related to the content of the magazine it is
separated from the rest of the columns which details the content within the magazine.
• Within both contents pages of the magazine the ‘SciFiNow’ website is on the magazine.
Empire Magazine contents page
Empire Magazine contents page
• The top half of the contents page of this magazine is covered with an image of avatar
characters as this is the magazines main feature and on this in a bold orange font is
titled ‘contents’ in a large font size so it is easily identifiable as the contents page.
• Each content line is divided into different subtitles ‘take 20’,’features’, ‘on screen’ and
‘review’ in a bold black font in keeping with the magazines colour scheme – orange
and black.
• Each content line is in the same font (just not in bold) and is in the same font in
keeping with the magazines theme in orange.
• Alongside this on the left of each cover line is the magazines page number in a black
in a large font to help efficiently navigate the magazine.
• There is a additional image in relation and the image consists of a personality
wearing an orange dress which links with the magazines orange colour scheme of
the magazine page .
