Throughout his career, New Jersey-based technology executive Rao Chalasani has worked for several prominent financial institutions, including Bank of America (BofA), JPMorgan Chase, and Merrill Lynch. Outside of his professional activities, Rao Chalasani gives back to the community by supporting Sakhi for South Asian Women, a New York-based nonprofit that operates a variety of outreach programs focused on ending domestic violence in the South Asian community.

3. As part of its efforts to provide women with the
skills and resources needed to leave and stay
out of violent relationships, Sakhi operates the
Economic Empowerment Program. Formally
launched in 2001, the program offers
participants credit, banking, and employment
training and connects them with case
management and other forms of support to
assist them in becoming more self-sufficient.

4. The program also helps participants attain
their higher education goals through the
Swarna Chalasani Scholarship Fund, which
offers grants of up to $1,500 to cover tuition,
books, fees, and other education-related
expenses. Currently, the fund provides an
average of 20 grants a year, but Sakhi hopes
to increase this number in the coming years.
