Factors affecting participation in sport and
physical activity
Unit aim
This unit enables learners to consider the different factors that affect participation by individuals in
sport. The unit aims to give learners a foundation understanding of the social, individual and cultural
influences that affect participation as well as some of the benefits of sport and physical activity.
Learners will investigate participation rates amongst individuals and discuss the enabling and
constraining factors that influence participation rates and how these may be overcome.
Learning outcomes
There are two outcomes to this unit. The learner will be able to:
