MAGAZINE
ANALYSIS
The horrific imagery of the blood
relates to the main sell-line as it
may make the audience feel
that they are getting something
exclusive because this is not
what they usual see in the Harry
potter films. This is more violent
and gritty.

The masterhead fits in with the
lay of the front cover because
of the colours used and also its
bold, makes a statement just like
the costume of the actor/model

‘No School’ gives the
perception that this is aimed at
teenagers and young adults as
they are most likely to be fans of
Harry Potter. Also ‘No rules’
meaning this is more aggressive
and violent than expected
especially giving the theme of
the issue.
The tagline reads ‘world access’
this is used to attract the
audience so that they know they
are receiving exclusive
information therefore making
them feel a part of something
special which will create a bond.
The colour of his shirt could be a
symbol of his innocence/purity;
though he’s a ‘bad boy’ he has
some mercy in him that is not
always revealed to the audience

There is direct contact with the
audience as the actor it is like
the actor is looking straight at
them; which gives a connection
between them allowing the
audience to feel a bond.
However the way that he is
looking is quite devious so its
quite intimidating.
This sell line has made clear that
this issue is targeted at horror
film fans. This is used to attract
them because this is a
professional magazine so the
audience know that the poll has
been made horror film experts
The costume of the actor/model contrast
with the horror theme because he doesn't
look like a typical villain. Though this may be
some features of psychological horrors
because their antagonist look normal and
that's what scares the audience the most
There is direct contact with the
audience as the actor it is like the
actor is looking straight at them; which
gives a connection between them
allowing the audience to feel a bond.
However the way that he is looking is
quite devious so its quite intimidating.
They may also feel like a target, as if
he is coming for them which gives a
feel of terror

The is placed at the top middle frame
of the magazine so that it is clear for
the audience to see. It also allows fans
of other genres besides horror to get
involved with this magazine issue. It
follows a convention of magazines
displaying their reviews and lists.

A medium close up is used for the
main image so that it is the source of
attention and so that it seems more
intimidating. The face is covered for
a mask which makes him look
terrifying, therefore correlating with
the theme of the magazine. This is
also a convention of horror villains to
have horrific mask to cover their
faces. So the audience will be
aware of the genre
There is a red boarder by the
main image; this is to symbolise
his danger towards others; red is
a representation of anger and
violence. Its almost like a
The title of the film is placed at the
warning to the audience
bottom middle frame with big bold
typography so that it will stand out and
gain attention from the audience. The
colour used matches with the main
image

The colour of the header is red to
link to the theme of horror so that
it is relatable also it has been
covered by the main image to
show the importance of the
character. In addition it shows
how popular the magazine itself
is; as the audience would not
need to see the full title of the
header, they already know what
magazine it is.

A quotes from the film has
been used as sell line. This gives
insight into the storyline of the
film. The quotation however
contrast with the main image
because it sounds very polite
and structured unlike the man
in the image. This could follow
another convention of the sub
genre due to the fact that he
may be a usual character who
has problems
The costume of the actor/model
looks as if like a straight jacket so
it gives the idea that is may be
from a psychological horror
because it relates with the
mental and psychological
issues.
