Seen in patients with 3rd nerve paralysis
& internal ophthalmoplegia
9. Symptoms of functional hypermetropia due to
3rd nerve palsy
• Double vision (diplopia)
• Eye misalignment (strabismus)
• Droopy eyelid (ptosis)
• Enlarged pupil that does not react normally
to light.
• Tilted head posture to compensate for
binocular vision difficulties.

• Treatment for underlying causes
• Diplopia – occlusion patch or prism involved
eye
• Monitor children for development of
amblyopia
Surgical
• Neurosurgery – Aneurysm or haematoma
• Ptosis surgery – non earlier than six months
from time of onset
