A Gantt chart is a bar chart that shows the tasks and timeline of a project. It displays the start and finish dates of the individual activities along a timescale, which allows project managers to track progress and identify delays. The chart also identifies task dependencies to illustrate the sequence in which portions of the work are to be accomplished. People assigned to each task can be represented on the chart.

6. How to construct and use a Gantt Chart
• Identify the tasks needed to complete the project
• Identify key milestones in the project
• Identify the time required for each task
• Identify the sequence: Which task must be finished before a following task can
begin, and which can happen simultaneously
• Draw a horizontal time axis
Down the left side of the page, write each task and milestones of the project in
order
For activities that occur over a periof of time, draw a bar that spans the
appropriate times on the timeline
Align the left end of the bar with the time the activity begins, and align the right
end with the time the activity concludes
Draw just the outlines of the bars
Checkthat every task of the project is in the chart
