 Indeed, the issue of sustainability is critical in hotel industry it deals with water and energy usage and
waste management.
 Similarly, accessibility is important in the operation of modern hotels given that more than one billion
people live with disabilities.
 This presentation entails a in-depth analysis in the development of Cyclone Paradise Resort in

ENERGY AND WATER CONSERVATION AND
WASTE MANAGEMENT
 Environmental management with no universal definition.
 However, one may consider it as the management of the relationship and influence of
human activities on the natural environment.
 It seek to determine various factors that contribute to the conflict that arise in
meeting organizational needs and preservation of the environment.
 Environmental management require firm to identify the amount of water and energy
consumed, as well as the waste generated(Charles, 2013).
 It requires a firm to integrate various strategies in energy and energy preservation
and solid waste management.
CONT.
ENERGY AND WATER CONSERVATION AND WASTE
MANAGEMENT
Energy Conservation
 Energy conservation also known as energy preservation refers to the use of energy effectively.
 In the Bahamas, the average cost of electricity is $0.32/ kilowatt-hour (National Renewable
Energy Laboratory, 2015).
 Thus, adopting and implementing energy conservation measures have various benefits:
 Reduces the operation cost.
 Increased profits
 Cyclone Paradise Resort will adopt various in energy conservation, which include
 Generating its power using a solar sources.
 Constructing a smart establishment that utilizes natural lighting and cooling.
 Using energy-efficient lighting systems and energy-effective appliances.
CONT.
ENERGY AND WATER CONSERVATION AND WASTE
MANAGEMENT
Water Conservation
 Water usage is a major concern in hospitality industry. Due to the large volumes consumed daily.
 Some water preservation methods in the Bahamas resorts include
 Installation of dual and low-flush toilets
 Low-flow showerheads and automatic faucets
 Water reuse and harvesting (Rosa et al., 2017)
 Establishing water treatment plants.
Waste management
 Solid waste management is vital activity that help organizations prevent the public health risks
resulting from unethical waste management.
CONT.
ENERGY AND WATER CONSERVATION AND WASTE
MANAGEMENT
Waste Management
 Facilities in Bahamas employ various activities that revolve around the three Rs of waste
management; R-reduce, R-reuse, R-recycling of solid waste
 Cyclone Paradise will adopt various measures in waste management such as.
 Garbage separation system, separating hazardous waste such waste from organic
waste such food remains that can be composted.
 Buying supplies with durable packaging containers that the resort can reuse.
 Collection of waste using Canvas bags.
 Cyclone Paradise resort will implement such environmental conservation measure to a
master certification from EarthCheck, a global leader in scientific benchmarking,
certification, and advisory group in tourism and travel.
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION

of a community.
 Some of the ways that hotels and resort contribute to the
community include;

 Although people with physical disability form significant market, there still face challenges in
accessing hotel facility.
 Indeed, the issue to accessibility is one that hospitality industry has often ignored.
 Various international and domestic policies bans discrimination against people with disabilities.
 The Bahamian government have enacted policies such as the persons with disabilities Act, that
seeks to prevent all forms of discrimination(Official gazette- Bahamas, 2014).
 The policy addresses access to goods, services, and public accommodations such as bars, hotels,
spas, beaches, private and public transportation.
