DEVELOPMENT OF TV
o Experiments in
Television broadcasting
were initiated during the
1920s in the United
States and Europe.
o By 1930s NBC, National
Broadcasting Corporation
had set up a TV station in
New York and BBC in
London that offered
regular telecast
programmes.
o The World War put a
brake on further
developments though
Nazi propaganda made a
good use of this medium.
TV AS A MEDIUM FOR EDUCATION
 The television requires visual perception and is an
inactive form of gratification for viewers.
 The hardest hits are the young children .
 Children shows like cartoon have positive and
negative effects on the children adopt the television
scenario as the guide for living their lives.
ROLE OF TELEVISION IN THE FIELD OF
EDUCATION
 Television has been given considerable importance
in many countries as a source and a tool of
teaching.
 Television is adaptable and can follow different
approaches when used in the different educational
situations.
 The medium is used for formal ,non-formal and
informal education.
 To support formal education television usually
function as supportive and reinforcement tool.
USESOFTELEVISIONINTHEFIELDOFEDUCATION
 To show practical application of
principle already written in the
textbook and to show the laboratory
work and demonstrations.
 To humanize distance education and
to improve language skills and
teaching skills by showing model
teaching techniques.
 To show real life situation and
microscope things on magnified scale.
 Animation ,dramatic presentations ,
slow motion and case studies.
WHY TELEVISION IS IN THE FIELD OF
EDUCATION
 Instructing
 Explaining Clarifying
 Summarizing
 Imposing study speed
 Supporting and enhancing teaching
 Motivation and encouragement
 Using as supplementary for the other materials
 Presenting a reference o large masses

AS MEDIUM OF EDUCATION
 Education + Entertainment = Edutainment
 Tatasky Learing Channels : Provides Learning monthly Packages
through which you can learn Maths, English ,Cooking ,Yoga, dancing .....
 Travel:- Travel guide ( TV as Medium of instruction )
 Discovery Science :- Programs like Science .....
 History and Epic Channel
 Food ( TV as a Medium of Instruction ) Well known Chef teaches recipes
and many other channels
 Indian TV Programs like Savdhan India and Gumrah teach us to become
aware.
 Animals Planet and discovery Channel makes us Familiar with Wildlife
Animal, Programs like Man VS Wild gives us guidance on how to survive
in difficults situation with less or no Equipment.
