Limitations of Cultural Studies
 The weakness of cultural studies lie in its very strengths,
particularly its emphasis upon diversity of approach and
subject matter.
 Cultural studies time seem merely and intellectual.
 Cultural means how culture have interacted.
 Cultural knowledge of the “deep play “of meaning or “thick
description “ that ethnographer Clifford Geerez identified in
his studies of the Balinese.
 David Richter describes cultural studies as “ about whatever is
happening at the movement ,about body of text created in the
past”

 Happening ‘,topic, generally speaking ,is the mass media
,post modern culture ,dominate culture lives of its
inhabitants, or topics.
 Hamlet or Huckleberry Finn were written they were not
intended for elite discussions in English class room but
popular consumption
 Marxist theorist Terry Eagleton has written the current “
crisis” in the humanities can be seen as a failure of
humanities “ body of discourses” about “imperishable
values.
Mass Media Culture
 In Modern time, there are many adds ,Indian Television
serials and popular movies that challenge the culture.
 That present the issues that can’t easily accepted by
society and culture like polygamy ,changing the
role/stereotypes of women ,generation gap emergence of
new identities LGBT.
 e.g. Khans, their movie, marriages with Hindu women
,in Satyamev Jayate presents dark side of Indian society.
Conclusion
 Whatever the emphasis, cultural studies makes
available one more approach-and several
methodologies –to address these questions.
