The DenimJacket
Denim jackets are everywherein the indie rock
culture. They could almostbe classed as a timeless
piece of clothing, they seem to always be in fashion
and always popular. Anyonewho wants to follow an
indie fashion style, have a denim jacket is an
essential part f their wardrobe. All the top modern
day indie rock stars havebeen photographed
wearing denim jackets, they could almost be classed
as iconic within the genre.
This is why I felt it was so necessary to have my
artist modelling in a denim jacket. There is no other
piece of clothing that (jacket wise) that is associated
with the indie genre of not only music but also
styles, the denim jacketis.
The bottom image to the right of this text featuring
indie rock startMatty Healy, is such an appropriate
image to the indie rock genre. He is wearing a denim
jacket, which as I have previously mentioned, is
heavily associated with this genre. He also has his
top off so his tattoos are visible, not only this he has
long hair, which again, long hair on men is very
common in the indie rock genre. Finally, we can see
in his right hand is a bottle of wine, alcohol and
drugs arealso heavily associatewith the genre,
putting a bet on the fact he has a cigarette in his left
hand wouldn’tbe a bad bet to make.
Pink Hat
As I’vepreviously spoken abouton my blog, something that is associated with
men of the indie rock genre is not being the mostmasculine of men, well at
least in the way they dress. This is something that I wantto be portrayed
within the images of my artist, due to the fact it fits the indie theme well. I
want to have my artists modelling in a pink hat. Caps are also another feature
that are often seen in this style so I’m going to mix both common styles, the
cap, and the colour pink.

with the indie rock genre.
I would like to style my artists in a similar way to this
image, as it features both, the iconic denim jacket,
and the pink hat, which subtly indicates a less
masculine style.
Camo Jacket
Indierock artists are known for being out there with
what they wear, occasionally seen wearing something
that isn’t often associated with the indie rock genre,
and not often something that is seen worn in fashion a
lot in the modern day. They wear styles or items of
clothing that could be from previous eras or just
classed as not cool. This is why somepeople feel the
indie genre is too out there and just‘uncool’ in general.
I want to presentthis idea of wearing something that
isn’t often see in modern fashion, I am have chosen to
style my artists in a camo jacketto do this. These aren’t
often seen in modern day fashion but it will supportthe
themes of trying to set a trend. I also think that styling this with a pink hat will
create a great juxtaposition. The pink hat, which will of coursewill be viewed
as a relatively feminine item of clothing, in the same outfit as a camo jacket
which has connotations of the army, will certainty uphold the indie style.
Black jeans
Black jeans are very simple and can be worn with mostoutfits. As my artists is
wearing a denim jacketthere isn’ta lot of choice regarding trousers dueto the
fact double denim (referring to blue denim) is risky, as if the shades of denim
don’t match, this can often look cheap and justnot right. So, by styling my

3. artist in black jeans, is an easy way of ensuring the
artists doesn’tlook poorly dressed.
Not only this, back jeans are often seen worn by indie
rock starts, an example of an indie rock startthat is
frequently photographed wearing black jeans is Van
Mccann, the lead singer of Catfish and the Bottlemen.
The image of Van to the left of this text features him
wearing black jeans. He is also known for often wearing
totally black outfits, and as he is a lead singer for one of
the biggestindie rock bands, he can set styles for the
whole of the indie community. This could be a reason
why black jeans are a lot more popular now, than they
were 5 years ago.
