What kind of media institution might

why?
2. The Production Process
Producing my media product would involve five stages which are;
1. Creating an idea which would involve 2. Researching current oppositions and
products already in the market – Focusing

product will appear, making the

independent?
3. Publishing
My target audience for my media product and ‘indie’ which are very similar audience
to magazines such as Q and NME which are distributed to be mainstream rather
than niche making my product be distributed to a world wide
audience, commercially. My product could be distributed by publishing companies
such as Beaur Media group who distribute magazines such as Q and Empire, Or
even IPC Media Group who distribute magazines such as NME and NOW. Usually
Beaur products are distributed to be well known (mainstream) and target a
larger/wider audience but are also considered niche in terms of age and
stereotypes. Considering these products are distributed to a large target
audience, they are then distributed to large retailers such as HMV and
supermarkets (ASDA, TESCO ETC) However, IPC Media Group aim to cover an even
wider range of audience by distributing magazines such as Nuts, Ideal Home and
Look. Covering all different types of readers.
4. Distribution
When I product is being distributed, I would prefer it to be done by IPC Media Group as IPC
Media is a leading UK customer magazine publisher and has distributes over 80 different
magazines. It’s their creativity, innovation, talent and commitment that drives their market
leading position in UK customer publishing.
My product is similar to NME, which is an example of IPC’s distributions, as it follows the
conventions of the music genre and targets a similar audience. This could be useful for IPC to
use techniques from publishing NME and apply them to my product. However, IPC’s
reputation and standards are very high and they also offer a variety of different genres of
magazines, producing a similar magazine to a current product they distribute would be very
risky. This can be a extremely important factor during distributing, to ensure that my product
is produced to it’s highest, most excellent standards possible and the distributors are reliable
sources.
5. Advertisement
Products such as NME are advertised via internet social websites, radio, tour posters and
television. Similar products are also promoted and advertised via the above, using websites
such as Facebook, Myspace, tumblr and twitter. This is an effective way to reach their
audience, regardless the different types of audience it may hold. This also helps to advertise
to a much larger commercial and mainstream audience, as most younger people use these
sites and will come across these advertisements.
I also intend to follow this example by promoting my product via Myspace etc. This will make my
magazine seen by millions and is also usually free through these social websites. Social
websites are currently the most popular way of communication and advertising online. I
would also advertise my product via Television, but on music channels as my product would
most likely be seen by my target audience.
