2. What is a digipak?
• Digipaks refer to the packaging of a compact disc
(CD) which covers the front and back of the CD
case, as well as the inside of the CD case.
Usually, there would be either the artist on both
sides of the plastic cases, and the CD itself, or
abstract art. Perhaps, they may have just the title of
the album and a simple background carrying
through the whole CD case.
3. Alternative rock digipaks
• There is an extensive use of bright colours on albums
with a background that is either black or
grey, whatever colour it may be it would usually be
one colour.
Although, the chosen genre is rock, it
is notable that the abstract imagery
used on alternative rock albums are
simple yet effective.
4. Chosen genre:
This side of the digipak
includes the details of the
band and their albums.
The record label has
been placed on the CD
as well as on the
information side.

The actual CD is
plain and looks like
a record for a
phonograph.
example
The group members are dressed
in black and the colour tone is
black and white to emphasise the
genre of the band. They are in a
deserted setting so the consumer
focuses on the Killers’ songs
rather than their image.
5. Chosen genre:

The artwork for
Californication
could be easily
overlooked by a
quick glance.
However, it
could truly be
appreciated if
the onlooker
was to stop for a
moment and
analyse the
artwork.

The name of the
band and the
album title are
typed in a small
font size which
do not interfere
with the artwork
of the album.
The sky is what you
would expect to be in
the swimming pool:
deep blue water
where waves have
formed. Whereas, the
pool is the colour of
the Californian sky:
hot, cloudy and
orange.
