2. What is a Digipack? A Digipack is a patented style of CD or DVD packaging. They typically consist of a gate fold (book-style) paperboard or card outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside. They also usually come with a small booklet usually containing lyrics and information on the artist or band.
3. Linkin Park - Meteora Linkin park is an alternative rock band. This digipack illustrates this “rock” attitude of not caring and rebelling against the system. On the album art, a man is seen spray painting and doing graffiti. This is the main theme of the digipack, as the insides also have graffiti. The bands name as well as the name of the album are written in capitals to make it stand out. White is used for the band name as it stands out the most against the black background and it is the first thing people look at. The bands name “Linkin Park” also has paint splattered on it to carry on the reoccurring graffiti theme. The font used is clear to read and bold. This digipack folds out in a typical 6 fold package. It also contains a booklet which contains lyrics of the songs on this album and a fan mailing list where you can sign up to receive freebies such as wallpapers etc.. On the back of the digipack are the title of all the songs and also contains the price and the barcode key features of all digipacks.
4. Incubus- A crow left of the murder Incubus is an alternative rock band. The font used in the bands and album name is quite thriller like and gives a sense of horror and death. The name is also placed at the top of the album to show its importance The album has a bright colourful background with flowers which contrasts quite heavily against the black shadowed figures and the black crows. The word for a group of crows is “murder” there the album can be interpreted as a rebellion. The crow is seen a lot through the digipack and this could be adapted as the band logo. This digipack also comes with a booklet which contains information on the band and lyrics to the songs. The back of the digipack has a list of the songs. The target audience for this digipack would be at teenagers and rock music fans. However the cover can be quite deceiving as it uses pop art which is usually a theme associated with pop music. The band member shown on the album look quite “punk” with their hats.
5. Advantages and Disadvantages of Digipacks Some of the advantages include by having more panels the artists can be more creative with the album and there is more room to add album art and other information such as lyric booklets. The plastic digipacks are made out of fully recycled materials which makes it environmentally friendly. Some disadvantages include that Digipacks are more likely to break and wear away as it is made out of weaker material. Digipacks are also more expensive to produce.
