• A sentence is a group of words
with a complete thought.
• It has a subject and a verb.
• Ends with a punctuation mark.
3. Examples:
Ouch! That really hurts.
Ana is pretty.
Can you give this to Ben?
My favorite fruit is
peach.
This is the best day of
my life!
4. Non-sentence
• It does not express a
complete thought and is
called a phrase.
• A phrase is a group of words
in which a subject or
a verb is missing.
• It has no punctuation mark
at the end.
7. Declarative Sentence – A statement
that begins with a capital
letter and end with a period.
Examples:
Father is in the kitchen.
My sister sleeps on the couch.
The dog is under the table.
8. Interrogative Sentence – A
statement that asks question
or requests for information.
It starts with a capital
letter and ends with a question
mark (?).
9. Examples:
Can you help me with my homework?
How many hours did you sleep last
night?
What is your phone number?
When is your birthday?
10. Exclamatory Sentence - Shows a
strong feeling. It starts
with a capital and uses an
exclamation point (!).
