4. Gauges
A device used for measuring dimensions. A
device used to measure the distance between
two opposing sides of an object.
Pressure Measuring Gauge
5. Inspection Gauges
Inspection gauge is a tool used to check
product dimension with reference to its
maximum and minimum acceptable limits. It
is generally used to acceptable and non
acceptable product in mass production.
6. Types of Inspection gauges
Calipers:
They are normally of two types- inside and outside
caliper. They are used to measure internal and external
size (for e.g. diameter) of an object.
Venire caliper:
It is a precision tool used to measure a small distance
with high accuracy.
Micrometer:
It is a fine precision tool which is used to measure small
distances and is more accurate than the venire caliper
7. Bridge gauge:
Bridge gauges are used to measure the amount of
wear of Main engine bearing.
Bore Gauge:
A tool to accurately measure size of any hole is known
as bore gauge.
Depth gauge:
A depth gauge is used to measure the depth of a slot,
hole or any other surface of an object. It can be of
scale, dial or digital type.
8. Telescope Gauge:
There is a range of gauges that are used to measure
a bore's size, by transferring the internal dimension
to a remote measuring tool.
Telescope gauge
9. Limit Gauge or Go/No Go gauge :
refers to an inspection tool used to check a work-
piece against its allowed tolerances.
Go/noGo gauge
10. Dial Gauge:
Dial gauge is utilised in different tools as I stated
before and can be separately used to measure the
trueness of the circular object.
Snap gauge
A snap gauge is a form of Go/no go gauge . It is a
limit gauge with permanently or temporarily fixed
measurement.
13. Thread Pitch Gauge:
It is also known as screw pitch gauge or pitch gauge. Use
to measure pitch or lead of screw thread.
Thread Pitch Gauge
14. Profile Gauge:
Profile gauge or contour gauge is a tool for recoding
the cross-sectional shape of a surface.
Profile or contour gauge
15. Ring Gauge:
Ring gauge is a cylindrical ring of steel whose
inside diameter is finished to gauge tolerance and is
used for checking the external diameter of a
cylindrical object. It is also a type of go/ no go
gauges.
Ring gauge
16. Feeler Gauge:
A feeler gauge is a tool used to measure gap
widths. Feeler gauges are mostly used in
engineering to measure the clearance between two
parts.
Feeler gauge
17. Temperature Gauge:
Temperature gauges works ar expansion principle. These
gauges are operates with a helical or spiral tube & an
expansion gauge contains a temperature sensor.
Commonly used in foundry & automobile industries.
Temperature Gauge
18. Wire gauge:
Wire gauge use measure of how large a wire is, either
in diameter or cross- sectional area. This determines the
amount of electric current a wire can safely carry.
Wire gauge
19. Bore Gauge:
Bore gauge is a device which used to measure holes
accurately.
Types:
Point to point bore gauge
Three point bore gauge
Two point electronic plug gauge
Dial bore gauge
21. Plug gauge:
A plain plug gauge used to check the size of a hole; the
green end is the go, and the red end is the no go.
Plug gauge
22. Tide Gauge:
It is also called as marigraph or mareograph.Tide gauge
is a device used to measure the sea level changing water
condition.
