3. •Steel rule: this is used for measuring the distance between two points. It can also
be used as a straight edge for checking purpose.
4. •Calipers: they are of two types; inside caliper and outside caliper.
Inside caliper is used to measure the inside dimension of a hole in an object. While outside
caliper is used to measure the outside dimension of a round bar or any object.
Note: never force the legs of the caliper over the work (outside) or inside the hole
(inside) to avoid distortion.

5. •Protractor: this is used for measuring angles in degrees. It can also be used for checking any
angle.

6. Micrometer: they are of different types.
•Internal micrometer: it is used for measuring internal dimensions.
•External diameter: is used for measuring external dimensions.
•Depth gauge micrometer: it is designed for measuring the depth in holes, shoulders and
recesses.
7. •Vernier caliper: this is used for measuring both internal and external dimension over a wider
range than is possible with a micrometer.
