2. Non Material Culture:-
The term āCultureā when used in the ordinary sense,
means ānon material cultureā. It is something internal and
intrinsically valuable, reflects the inward nature of man.
Non-material culture consists of the words the people
use or the language speaks, the beliefs they hold, values
and virtues they cherish, habits they follow, rituals and
practices that they do and the ceremonies they observe.
It also includes our customs and tastes, attitudes and
outlook, in brief, our way of acting, feelings and thinking.
That is what we called non-material culture.
So by observing the definition we came to know about
the components of non-material culture. These are
following:-
1- Language
2- Norms
3- CommunicationStyle
4- Socialization
5- Mores
6- Folkways
3. Language:-
Language is one way humans are able to
communicate, making it possible for people to
share thoughts and opinions with one another.
This type of communication impacts the
formation of culture. There can be variations from
one society to other society in language but it is
used as a way of communication in any society. In
Pakistan we have adopted the western language
(ENGLISH) as a medium of communication, and
now an illiterate person in Pakistan knows some
of its words. We even in Punjabi, Saraiki and Urdu
use the words of English. E.g. āFatigueā, āten on
tenā etc.
Norms:-
An acceptable standards or a way of behaving or
doing things that most people agree with. These
things are acceptable to everyone and can be
seen important for any society in the present era.
4. There was a culture of Pakistan that a woman
should do her household, she have to perform her
duties at home but by concerning or by
assimilation from western culture we adopt a
norm that a woman should do work with men and
also thing that a man can do e.g. āTo drive a carā
āto work in a factoryā. Etc
5. Communication Style:-
The way we interact with others in a society in
our everyday life. We use some kind of words to
interact with others. Being a Muslim we say other
āAssalam-o-Alikumā but with the passage of time
we have adopted some other words which are
now used in our everyday such as āHelloā, āHyā.
Socialization:-
āThe process of inducting the individual into the
social world is called āSocializationā. In Common
sense, socialization is a life-long training for the
adjustment of oneās life in society. This Process of
Socialization is the process of learning norms,
roles, techniques, and other cultural patterns. In
two ways, the process of learning takes place. In
6. Pakistan or in any other country or society only
house is the first and important place of
socialization of a child but with the passage of
time the western culture also assimilate there and
now we make our children to sit in front of TV,
Facebook, Cartoons, or mobile accessories and
this has made the child which is lack with moral
values, he is not even know the true meanings of
āFather or Motherā.
Mores:-
Mores are those customs and group routines
which are thought by the members of the society
to be necessary to the group continued existence.
E.g. Burial of dead body (for Muslims), respecting
elders. Being a Muslim as a Pakistani we have
these mores common that we have to do respect
our elders, and to take part in proper burial of our
beloved dead one, but with the passage of time
these things are now changed by the assimilation
of western culture, now we hire people for the
7. proper burial of our beloved dead ones and family
members are lived in a way that they do not even
know each other and by social media, electronic
media the culture of respecting the elders have
been becoming rare.
Folkways:-
Those ways of acting that are common to a
society or a group and that are handed down
from one generation to the next are known as
folkways. E.g. while smoking (huqqa) the oldest to
start first and the younger to serve. Due to
western culture assimilation in our culture First of
all the concept of huqqa has removed from our
culture, it is somehow present in our villages but
the culture of starting from older to serve
