especially a critical and exhaustive
investigation or experimentation having for
its aim the discovery of new facts and their
correct interpretation, the revision of
accepted conclusions, theories, or laws in
the light of newly discovered facts (basic
research) or the practical applications
(applied research) of such conclusions,
theories, or laws.

Identify a topic of interest to study.

41. 2. Problem-definition Phase
Refine the vague and general idea(s)
generated in the previous step into
a precise question to be studied
(The Research Question/RQ).

42. 3. Procedures-design Phase
Decide on the specific procedures
to be used in the gathering and
statistical analysis of the data.

43. 4. Observation Phase
Using the procedures devised in
the previous step, collect all
observations from the subjects
in the study

44. 5. Data-analysis Phase
Analyze the data collected above
using appropriate analytical
procedures.

45. 6. Interpretation Phase
Compare your results with the
results predicted on the basis of a
theory. Does the result support the
theory?

46. 7. Communication Phase
Prepare a written or oral report of
your study for the publication or
presentation to the public. The
report should include a description
of all the above steps.
