5. No child involvement in any decision making

Allah said َّ‫ك‬َ‫ف‬َ‫ت‬َ‫ي‬َ‫و‬‫ون‬ُ‫ر‬
Qur’anic method
A’al Imraan 3:190. Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth,
and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for people
of understanding.
191. Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting,
and lying down on their sides, AND think deeply about the creation of the
heavens and the earth, (saying):
“Our Rabb! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You!
(Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give
us salvation from the torment of the Fire.”
Allah used AND
Why this method?
Islam recognizes that all knowledge is from Allah
and that the purpose of knowledge is to produce
the awe and majesty of Allah (Khashyatullah) in
the heart.
The natural result is to connect to Allah

3. Chemistry: Why is sea water salty?
4. Geography: Navigation,
Orienteering, sailing, Qibla
5. History: Maritime history of
nations, colonial domination

7. Tafseer: Qur’anic Ayaat relating to
Oceans
8. Fiqh: Mathaa’il related to sea water,
food, travel etc.
9. Hadith: Ahadith related to the sea
10. Seerah: Stories of Seerah and Sahaba

Two Oceans
َ‫ع‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬َ‫ه‬ ِ‫ن‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫ب‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ َ‫ج‬َ‫ر‬َ‫م‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ذ‬َّ‫ل‬‫ا‬ َ‫و‬ُ‫ه‬َ‫و‬ٌ‫ح‬ْ‫ل‬ِ‫م‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬َ‫ه‬َ‫و‬ ٌ‫ات‬َ‫ر‬ُ‫ف‬ ٌ‫ب‬ْ‫ذ‬

Furqan 25: 53. And it is He Who has let free the two seas (kinds of
water), one palatable and sweet, and the other salt and bitter, and He
has set a barrier and a complete partition between them.

Naba 78:6. Have We not made the earth as a bed, 7. And the mountains as pegs?
ِِ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ُ‫ف‬ِ‫نس‬َ‫ي‬ ْ‫ل‬ُ‫ق‬َ‫ف‬ ِ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ِْ‫اْل‬ ِ‫ن‬َ‫ع‬ َ‫ك‬َ‫ن‬‫و‬ُ‫ل‬َ‫أ‬ْ‫س‬َ‫ي‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬ً‫ف‬ْ‫س‬َ‫ن‬
Ta-ha 20:105. And they ask you concerning the mountains, say; "My Rabb will
blast them and scatter them as particles of dust.
‫ا‬ً‫اب‬َ‫ر‬َ‫س‬ ْ‫ت‬َ‫ن‬‫ا‬َ‫ك‬َ‫ف‬ ُ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ِْ‫اْل‬ ِ‫ت‬َ
ِِ‫ّي‬ُ‫س‬َ‫و‬
Naba 78:20. And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they
will be as if they were a mirage

2. What if we had asked, discovered and told
the world about it – in the context of the
Qur’an?
Who received this information first?
But who confirmed it on their own?

1. Vocational training in every school and madrassa

Every child must graduate with a marketable skill

Because people listen with their eyes

1. Commitment
2. Honesty
3. Accountability
4. Respect
5. Courage

Until we begin to live by them
They must be inculcated

Our greatest human challenge
1. To behave according to our beliefs

  • 3. Our Challenge as Teachers 1. Bring Allah‫ﷻ‬ into the class 2. Introduce the Creator to His slaves 3. Teach them that success lies in obedience to Allah‫ﷻ‬ 4. Teach them to take from the treasures of Allah‫ﷻ‬ and give to the rest of mankind To do this through science, maths and language
  • 5. Please ask yourself 1. What do you call someone who studied full time for 15 years? 2. What do you call your child when he/she passes the 12th class exam? 3. Which job calls for a school graduate? What did you pay for?
  • 6. Who is responsible? •If a child doesn’t study •If a child has no manners •If a child lacks in confidence •If a child doesn’t know who Allah‫ﷻ‬ is •If a child has no connection with Rasoolullah‫ﷺ‬ Who should be punished?But who is punished?
  • 7. Teaching is where It is legal to punish someone else for your crimes
  • 8. Education today 1. Random information crammed without reason 2. Tested on random recall 3. No focus on showing relatedness of one to another 4. No focus on application in life After 15 years of learning students completely unprepared to face the world
  • 9. What’s wrong today? 1. Class organization according to age 2. Teaching discrete subjects unrelated to each other 3. Ringing bells to announce periods 4. Examining only random recall – not understanding 5. No child involvement in any decision making 6. No freedom to do what they want when they want They usually call such places - prisons
  • 10. 1. The way we look at children 2. The way we treat children 3. The way we evaluate teachers 4. The way we support teaching What must change? Who is the school for?
  • 11. What to do? 1. Accept them as equals 2. Trust them with responsibility 3. Pay based on customer satisfaction 4. Top pay, top quality, top facilities Make the school aspirational for students and teachers

  • 14. Qur’anic method A’al Imraan 3:190. Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for people of understanding. 191. Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, AND think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): “Our Rabb! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.” Allah used AND
  • 15. Why this method? Islam recognizes that all knowledge is from Allah and that the purpose of knowledge is to produce the awe and majesty of Allah (Khashyatullah) in the heart. The natural result is to connect to Allah
  • 16. Project: Oceans 1. Biology: Marine plants & animals 2. Physics: Displacement floats ships 3. Chemistry: Why is sea water salty? 4. Geography: Navigation, Orienteering, sailing, Qibla 5. History: Maritime history of nations, colonial domination 6. Trade: Routes, goods, cultural & population change 7. Tafseer: Qur’anic Ayaat relating to Oceans 8. Fiqh: Mathaa’il related to sea water, food, travel etc. 9. Hadith: Ahadith related to the sea 10. Seerah: Stories of Seerah and Sahaba about the sea Living knowledge to be applied in context

And it is He Who has let free the two seas (kinds of water), one palatable and sweet, and the other salt and bitter, and He has set a barrier and a complete partition between them. How does this happen and where is this?

And the mountains as pegs? ِِ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬ ‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ُ‫ف‬ِ‫نس‬َ‫ي‬ ْ‫ل‬ُ‫ق‬َ‫ف‬ ِ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ِْ‫اْل‬ ِ‫ن‬َ‫ع‬ َ‫ك‬َ‫ن‬‫و‬ُ‫ل‬َ‫أ‬ْ‫س‬َ‫ي‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬ً‫ف‬ْ‫س‬َ‫ن‬ Ta-ha 20:105. And they ask you concerning the mountains, say; "My Rabb will blast them and scatter them as particles of dust. ‫ا‬ً‫اب‬َ‫ر‬َ‫س‬ ْ‫ت‬َ‫ن‬‫ا‬َ‫ك‬َ‫ف‬ ُ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ِْ‫اْل‬ ِ‫ت‬َ ِِ‫ّي‬ُ‫س‬َ‫و‬ Naba 78:20. And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage
