Man : You’re welcome. It should be opened now. It opens at 8.00 A.M.
Erica : Good. And can you tell me how often the busses leave for the city?
Man : You need to check at the transportation counter. It’s right down the hall.
Erica : Ok. And just one more thing. do you know where the nearest restroom is?
Man : Right behind you ma’am see that sight?
Erica : Oh. That’s very kind of you.

Lesson plan 1 expressing gratitude

  • 1. LESSON PLAN (FIRST MEETING) 1. Subject : SPEAKING I 2. School : English Education Study Program Unidayan 3. Time Allotment : 90 minutes 4. Meeting : 1st meeting 5. Venue (Room) : 235 6. Class : A 7. Level : (same ability level) 8. Semester : II (Two) 9. Language Focus : Speaking 10. Topic : Expressing Gratitude 11. Prior Knowledge : 12. Objectives :  The students are able to mention some kinds of expressing gratitude and how to give the response (Knowledge)  The students are able to give examples of expressing gratitude and how to give the response (comprehension)  The students are able to use expression of gratitude and how to give the response (Application)  The students are able to create dialogue using expression of gratitude and how to give the response (Synthesis) 13. Presentation 20 minutes - Warming up (speaker) - Telling the objectives of the material (speaker) - Students respond the greeting (listener and speaker) - Listen the objective of material (listener) T - S T - S - Students are able to respond the greeting - Students understand the objective of lesson - Keep up readiness - Focus on the materials
  • 2. - Explain the Material of “how to gratitude someone and how to give the responses.” (speaker) - Teachers give examples of “how to gratitude someone and how to give the responses.” (speaker) - Teachers give the example of dialogue that contains of expressing gratitude and how to give the responses - Listen to the teachers’ explanation (listener) - Listen to the teachers’ examples (listener ) - Pay attention to the teachers’ example T – S T – S T - S - Students understand the teachers’ explanation Students can understand the examples - Students can make a dialogue that contains of expressing gratitude and how to give the responses. - Fosters students understandi ng - To make the students understand - To make students understand in making dialogue that contains of expressing gratitude and how to give the responses. Practice 50 Minutes - Explain the task instruction (speaker) Activity I - Teacher asks students to choose a partner (so they will be in pairs). - Teachers ask the students in pair to make and speak five sentences that express how to gratitude to someone and how to give responses. (listener) - Listen carefully - Students choose partner to be in pair. - Students make and speakfive sentences that express about how to gratitude to someone and how to give responses. (Speaker and listener) T - S S - S S - S - Student understand the task instruction - Students in pair can make and produce the gratitude and how to give responses. - To make the students are easy to do the tasks. - Increasing students ability in expressing gratitude and giving responses.

Activity II - Teachers divide the class into 6 groups and each group consist of 6 and 7 students because the class is 40 students) - Teachers ask all groups to make a dialogue that contain the expressing of gratitude and how to give responses and speakit in front of the class. (listener) - Student will be in 8 groups - Students in group make a dialogue that contains the expressing of gratitude and how to give responses and speak in front of the class. (speaker and listener) - Students in group can make a dialogue and speakit. Increasing the students’ ability making dialogue about expressing of gratitude and how to give responses. C. Production/ Use 20 minutes - Ask students to speak how to express gratitude and give responses as many as they known (listener) - students speak how to express gratitude and give responses as many as they known (speaker) T-S Students can speak how to express gratitude and give responses Increasing the students ability in expressing gratitude and giving responses

If you want to make your gratitude more formal, you can use:  I want to thank you for.....  I want to tell you how grateful I am....  I’m extremely grateful to you for.....  I’m grateful for..... To responds to thanks  You’re welcome  That’s all right  That’s OK.  It’s pleasure  It is no trouble  It is nothing  Not at all

  • 6. Activity I Works in pairs make five sentences that contain the expressing of gratitude and how you give response. Share it orally with your friends in the class. Activity II A. Listen and practice Erica : Excuse me, could you tell me where the bank is? Man : There’s one upstairs. Across from the duty-free shop. Erica : Oh. Thank you so much. Do you know what time is opens? Man : You’re welcome. It should be opened now. It opens at 8.00 A.M. Erica : Good. And can you tell me how often the busses leave for the city? Man : You need to check at the transportation counter. It’s right down the hall. Erica : Ok. And just one more thing. do you know where the nearest restroom is? Man : Right behind you ma’am see that sight? Erica : Oh. That’s very kind of you. Man : That’s all right. B. Group Work make a short dialogue that contain of expressing gratitude and how to give responses. Explain it orally in front of the class. Evaluation Book closed; explain how to express gratitude and to give responses as many as you know.
