Senior Software Engineer
Recruited by Cerent to be part of the Data Team which developed the Ethernet Data Plane for the
454 Optical Add-Drop Multiplexor. This was an embedded system-on-a-blade that integrated Layer 2
Ethernet switching with the optical network for Service Providers.
The Cerent 454 was a ground-breaking platform that provided superior network integration features
and unprecedented price/performance metrics for Metro Area Service Providers.
Independent Contractor / Consultant / Manager 1985 - 1998
Highlights of experience with various systems companies and equipment providers:
Managed software development teams for Paradyne, a networking equipment provider located in
Largo, FL (acquired by Zhone Technologies in 2005). Delivered new networking product for an OEM
customer. Managed all customer-facing activities for the Engineering Department. On-time delivery
earned a significant performance bonus from the customer.
Member of a team that created one of the first Voice-Over-IP implementations.
Member of a team that developed the Reachtm DSL line protocol for Paradyne. This innovative
protocol uses a Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Its unique properties allow operating for extended
distances on legacy copper telephone line.
Developed UI software and NDIS drivers for a Windows-based system that interfaces to internal
ISDN-PRI line card using Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC).
