1. My journal – Kindergarten
This first period started the 24th April (2014), and it lasted three
months. As it was my first experience teaching at kindergarten, my journal
is full of comments about how I felt, I used to have lots of doubts, and I
didn’t know even how to teach children a single word. Fortunately, the
English teacher, Pamela Ramirez, helped me a lot with all my insecurities
and the inconvenients that came across.
The main challenge at this period was a boy, who at first sight
seemed to be like any other kid, but while I was observing my second
lesson I noticed that he was different, and by the end of the lesson Pamela
told me he was an autistic child, and that he needed extra attention all the
time.
Because of this boy, there was another teacher in the classroom all
the time. This person was in charge of the kid all the time, she used to play
with him, teach him the new contents, at his own path, and tell him off
when he didn’t behave.
By the end of this period, all the aims that I had proposed myself
were met, all the contents have been taught and fortunately, the children
were very happy of having me as a temporary teacher.
