4. RECAP
PREPARE FOR INTERVIEWS – RESEARCH,
FIND SOMETHING TO ASK ABOUT
THAT HAS NOT BEEN ALREADY
ANSWERED ELSEWHERE
CRAFT OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS –
HOW, WHAT, WHY
CHECK PRONUNCIATIONS
11. POSSIBLES
There is an actual goal to be able to bridge community and police
relations.
Young people do eventually come in the center. And they do see
that the officers that they're connecting with have this overall
initiative to be able to connect with them, I see them as humans.
And so we try as much as possible.
There's like this real human conversation that happens. Because
at the end of the day, like we all have a heart.
You know, sometimes they're like, oh, are those real guns on
them? Yes, that is a real gun. Oh, and actually, you should just ask
them as if that's a gun on them. And I'd rather that I can be a
facilitator initiator of like the bridge and conversation, but I want
the conversation to be held between the officer and a young
person.
12. POSSIBLES
So I always loved like the creative arts life. I mean, I was a dancer since I was
seven years old and took that one into a professional career. And that was
the reason why I moved to New York City about nine years almost ago. And
so I've always had this desire to do youth development work and that's
where my social work part comes in.
So I've always been about creating spaces that like, and activities that young
people could potentially do for the long run in their lifetime.
I always knew that I wanted to create those types of spaces for young people,
even when we're thinking about through the realm of sports, you know, what
is it like to if you don't make it to the next level? Like how can you be like
maybe a high school basketball coach, or a referee or an analyst or a
journalist, like, there's kids that like to talk about these things, or they have
their own YouTube channels. And so we just want to be able to provide them
with a wide spectrum of like, there's so many directions that you can go with
whatever you like.
13. USE SOTs THAT REVEAL THE INTERVIEWEE
YOU REPORT THE FACTS ABOUT THE
INTERVIEWEE AND THE NEWSWORTHY
EVENT/PLACE/THING THAT THE
INTERVIEWEE IS PART OF
14. PUTTING THE STORY TOGETHER
REVIEW, TRANSCRIBE AND CHART YOUR
INTERVIEW
REVIEW YOUR FACTS – WHAT ARE
THE KEY ONES TO TELL?
REVIEW AND CHART YOUR VISUALS.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO USE? HOW
CAN THE MOST ENGAGING VIDEO BE
USED TO CONNECT WITH THE LEAD
AND THEN THE REST OF YOUR STORY?
15. PUTTING THE STORY TOGETHER
SELECT YOUR SOTs
WRITE YOUR LEAD – IS IT A STAND-UP?
WHERE WILL YOU DO IT? PLAN HOW
YOU WILL DO IT AND SHOOT IT. FOCUS
ON WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.
16. WRITE THE BODY OF YOUR STORY
INSERT YOUR SOTs IN YOUR SCRIPT
DOING A STAND-UP BRIDGE? WRITE IT
NOW. WHERE WILL YOU DO IT? PLAN
HOW YOU WILL DO IT AND SHOOT IT.
WRITE YOUR CLOSE - IS IT A STAND-UP?
WHERE WILL YOU DO IT? PLAN HOW
YOU WILL DO IT AND SHOOT IT.
17. REVIEW EVERYTHING.
ARE THE FACTS RIGHT?
ARE YOUR WORDS RIGHT?
IS YOUR TIME RIGHT?
ARE THE SOTs RIGHT?
ARE YOUR INTROS RIGHT?
ARE YOU TELLING A STORY OR
JUST LISTING FACTS?
18. SOME REPORTERS LIKE TO WRITE
THE CLOSE BEFORE THEY WRITE
THE BODY. YOU CAN IF YOU WANT.
I DON’T BECAUSE I WANT THE
STORY TO FLOW LIKE A CONVERSATION.
WE EVENTUALLY GET TO THE END BUT
WE DON’T START CONVERSATIONS
THINKING OF WHAT WE’LL SAY AT
THE END BEFORE WE TELL IT.
21. START OR CONTINUE WORKING ON
YOUR PKG ABOUT THE INTERVIEW AND
CENTER.
YOU JUST GOT MORE TIME ON THE
NEWSCAST!
YOUR STORY HAS BEEN BUMPED UP TO
2:00 IN LENGTH
22. USE THE TWO COLUMN TV NEWS SCRIPT
TEMPLATE
DESCRIBE THE VIDEO/VISUALS YOU WILL
SHOW IN THE LEFT SIDE COLUMN.
A STAND-UP OPEN OR CLOSE IS OK BUT
NOT BOTH. YOU CAN ALSO DO NEITHER.
JUST WRITE A SCRIPT NOW BUT BE REALISTIC
ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL SHOW
23. THERE ARE SOME VISUALS ALREADY
POSTED ON BLACKBOARD THAT
YOU CAN USE.
I AM WORKING ON GATHERING
MORE THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT
TO USE.
