Subject : Lack of awareness among people regarding the COVID 19 Pandemic
Sir,
89. Sample 1 (contd.)
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the
readers towards the lack of awareness among the residents of Delhi which is resulting in the
rising number of COVID 19 cases.
People are not following the rules issued by the government. Most of the people are not
wearing masks and not following social distancing norms in public places. They are resenting
to see the doctor even if they have symptoms of COVID 19.
Even after so many awareness programs being conducted by the government, it is very
disappointing to see people behaving in an irresponsible manner.
Therefore, I would request you to highlight this matter in your newspaper to create awareness
in the mass.
Thanking You
Yours truly
Sarojini Sharma

100. Sample 1
Write an article in about 200 words on “Conservation of forests”.
Lungs Of The Earth
- By ABC
Millions of years ago, Earth was covered with nothing but trees. Today, we are looking at the past
and wishing for a greener Earth.
At present, forests cover 31% of all land areas. That is barely enough to compensate for the
amount of Carbon dioxide released into the air. Carbon dioxide is a harmful greenhouse gas and
causes global warming. Trees absorb Carbon dioxide and give out oxygen, thus maintaining the
environmental balance.
We get many other things like wood, medicines, food, etc. from forests. They also help in the
conservation of soil. They provide a habitat for wild animals thus saving many species from
becoming extinct.
We have been relentlessly cutting down forests for our selfish motives. Large areas of forests are
burnt to clear lands for agriculture to feed and provide shelter for the ever-growing population. As
a result, the earth is becoming warmer, melting down the ice at the poles, resulting in a gradual
increase in the water level in the oceans. It has also hampered the water cycle in nature resulting
in a reduction in the annual rainfall.
It is high time that we start conserving forests actively. Every individual’s contribution can save
humanity as we are directly or indirectly dependent on forests.

111. Practice Question
Environment Unfriendly Polybags
By: Amarjeet, Staff Reporter
The National Herald
New Delhi, 16th March, 20xx
In the year 2002 the government had banned the production and
use of plastic bags in our country. But unfortunately, these are
now being widely used again everywhere. Not only are we using a
huge number of polybags daily but we are also discarding them
in our drains uncaring about the fact that they will block the
flow of drain water. Polybags are also a threat to our
environment.
112. They cause pollution, kill wildlife and are responsible for using up
the natural resources of the earth. They are one of the main
factors that litter the landscape. If burnt, they will infuse the
surrounding air with toxic fumes.
The main problem of plastic bags is that they are non-
biodegradable. The decomposition of plastic takes around a
thousand years, so with the plastic rubbish produced each day it
is likely that this problem will never be solved. While the
government works out ways to lessen the impact of polybags on
the environment each one of us too should shoulder some
responsibility for this problem that ultimately harms us all.
