Welcome!
I’m so excited to be at Ball State again this year, and I hope that you are just as excited to start your
time here! This is a required course for Freshmen Honors students, but the class is exactly what you
make it. Let’s try to make it as social as it is academic and as fun as possible! To do this, I need your
input! Give me feedback on how I’m doing as your peer mentor. I welcome any comments or
suggestions for the class. You may also contact Dr. Laurie Lindberg if you have any other concerns
which you do not feel comfortable bringing to me.
Class Goals:
Learn more about the Honors College, Ball State, and the Muncie community
Meet other Honors College students
Adjust to living in a new place: campus and Muncie
Learn more about the resources on campus
Class Requirements:
Show Up: To pass this class, all you really have to do is show up! If you have more than one
absence, you will receive a “fail” grade. Because this is a credit/ no credit course, your GPA
won’t suffer, but your Honors flag will be removed, removing you from the Honors Program. If
you hate the class, it’s only 9 weeks and will be over before you know it!
Meet your Advisor: Make an appointment with your honors advisor (Amanda Ballenger or
Sarah Haley) to discuss your four-year plan and any other questions you might have. You can
set up your appointment at the front desk of the Honors College or by calling the front desk at
(765)285-1024. Complete your four-year place and make these appointments ASAP!
Outside Activities: You must each complete three activities, outside of the classroom, on
campus or in the Muncie community. These could include: Late Nite, a club meeting, a bike
ride on the Cardinal Greenway, a play… anything! All you have to do is write a one paragraph
summary of your experience, including a picture. At least one of your activities should be
service related.
Curriculum Fair: This is not so much a requirement as a strong suggestion. Please plan to
attend the Curriculum Fair! More details will be coming soon!

If you need course adaptations or accommodations because of a disability, please contact me as soon as
possible. Ball State's Disability Services office coordinates services for students with disabilities; documentation
of a disability needs to be on file in that office before any accommodations can be provided. Disability Services
can be contacted at 765-285-5293 or dsd@bsu.edu.
