Subject : Problems Faced Due to Noise Pollution
Sir
I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities towards increasing problem of noise pollution. It is causing great damage to the
health problem of the city. It leads to irritation, loss of sleep, rest and peace. It is harmful to physical and mental health of people. Frequent loud
noise affects the working efficiency of the people and persistent noise pollution causes a loss of sense of hearing.
Increasing noise pollution is a big threat to the health and fitness of the people. If the noise pollution is allowed to go unchecked, it may rob the
people of their hearing capacity. Increasing number of vehicles on the roads, rising growth of factories, construction work, loudspeakers used on
various occasions, rock and pop music, etc. are the various factors responsible for causing noise pollution. Noise control laws are openly violated.
It is high time the authorities should rise against the danger of noise pollution. They should strictly enforce the noise control laws. The noise
producing factories located in the residential areas should be shifted to far-off places without any delay. The use of loudspeaker should be
stopped after specific time. Above all, public needs to be aware and cooperative against the danger of noise pollution because without public
cooperation authorities cannot make much difference.
It is earnestly hoped that concerned authorities will take immediate and urgent necessary action against those responsible for noise pollution to
relieve the people from the harmful effects of noise pollution.
Yours truly

COACHING INSTITUTES EXPLOIT STUDENTS
BY ANURAG ADHIKARI
Coaching institutes have mushroomed in every nook and corner of a city over the past few years. These so-
called ‘temples of learning’ are exploiting the young minds just for their financial gains. The misleading
advertisements given by these institutes act as magnets to attract the innocent, inexperienced students,
who are seeking for sincere counselling and proper direction.
Most private tuition centers and coaching institutes treat students just as commodities, instead of
providing them proper direction in their scholarly pursuits and giving them individual attention. They leave
them to their fate. The counsellor who is appointed to these institutes is assigned the task of filling the
unpopular coaching programs with more students so that the institution can maximize its profits,
irrespective of whether that particular program suits the student or not.
These coaching institutes take advantage of ignorance of the illiterate parents by advising them to enroll
their weak child in a crash course whereas he needs to join the long term program for being successful in
life. The sole purpose of these institutions is to fill their coffers with money, not to look into the well being
of these students who are the future assets of the nation. These institutions are like the ‘termites’ making
the future of the nation hollow.
The education department of the government should be vigilant and stop these coaching institutes from
exploiting the innocent students. Stringent laws should not only be made to stop these institutes from
spreading their tentacles in the society but the guilty who playing with the future of the students should be
brought to task. Parents should also be vigilant while admitting their children to such coaching centers.

FAREWELL SPEECH SAMPLE
Good evening Principal Sir, teachers, adorable seniors and my dear friends,
It seems like just the other day when we were all talking about [the batch you are saying farewell
to]'s farewell as they move on to [insert a few specific details here].
I remember thinking that it would be hard to say goodbye ... and I was right - it is hard. Yet I consider myself
fortunate to have got an opportunity to interact with such a smart and intelligent batch... a batch that we
care so much about ... that it makes saying goodbye to them hard! You were always there when we needed
you and supported us with best of your advice. We will remain indebted to you all for your able guidance.
As we say goodbye, we remind ourselves that farewells are not forever, nor are they the end. They are
simply words to say that we will miss you dearly and that we will remember you fondly. Although we may be
separated by time and distance in the interim, nothing will diminish the important role that you have and
always will play in our lives.
We wish you happy adventures, fantastic new friendships, amazing experiences and the journey of a
lifetime. Richard Bach says, "Can miles truly separate you from friends? If you want to be with someone you
love ... aren't you already there?“ And so it is ... and always will be with you as we carry you always close to
our hearts.
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your
face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his
hand - Irish Blessing
Thank you.
DEBATE WRITING
■ Use facts, figures, quotes and instances related to topic to introduce the
topic.
■ Begin with greetings for the audience and make your stand clear
whether you are expressing your views in favor or against the topic.
■ Give concrete and convincing reasons with examples to justify your
stand.
■ Use persuasive expressions like ‘in my opinion’, ‘I strongly feel’, ‘I beg to
differ’, I disapprove of’, ‘May I ask?’ etc.
■ Should reflect clarity of thought, accuracy of facts and balanced view.
■ Conclusion should be powerful to make your stand valid.
■ A powerful quotation can summarize your viewpoint.
■ Write ‘Thank you’ at the end of your speech.
DEBATE SAMPLE
Good afternoon Chairperson, time-keeper, adjudicator, fellow competitors and members of the audience. My name is Rohan
Mehta and today I will be persuading you that children should not be on social media.
Firstly, I’ll be mentioning just how easy it is for people to hack into an account and invade your private life. Secondly, social media
can encourage cyber-bullying and expose children to inappropriate information. Children are extremely vulnerable these days with
the amount of freedom they are given but add to that their vulnerability on line, this is exacerbated. Children are online and their
lives may be totally exposed.
Hacking means to gain unauthorized data through a system or computer. This is effectively stealing information from someone’s
social media account, for example: their address, phone number, school and even bank account details. Hacking into one’s
social media account nowadays is unfortunately a very common occurrence and can cause untold destruction to a person’s life.
For example: Money could be stolen from them or their information could be used for negative purposes. Often people post on
another person’s account pretending to be them. This can lead to bullying and can cause serious stress to the individual.
The opposition may argue that apps nowadays are very secure and safe. When you delete some mistakenly posted picture or
information, you assume it is gone and there is nothing to worry about…but it is NEVER GONE!!
As I mentioned earlier password security is an issue. People may have personal messages or information that has been shared
in confidence stored within their social media accounts. If they have not secured their privacy settings their messages and shared
pictures could be on view to anyone in the public.
Privacy settings on these apps are often very difficult to find and use. Children especially may not think of trying to find them
when setting up their accounts. This means the content on their apps is visible to people all over the world. This proves that
social media is not only a bad idea but is seriously dangerous.
Thank you for listening to me who spoke to you about how social media can influence bad behaviour, encourage cyber bullying
and leave children open to having their accounts hacked. We hope that all of these points make you realise how dangerous
Social Media is to vulnerable children and we urge you to agree with us that social media is NOT a good idea.
Thank you.

  • 29. LETTER TO EDITOR No, 7, ABC Colony, Ghaziabad-211008 14 March 2015 The Editor The Times of India New Delhi-110 001 Subject : Problems Faced Due to Noise Pollution Sir I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities towards increasing problem of noise pollution. It is causing great damage to the health problem of the city. It leads to irritation, loss of sleep, rest and peace. It is harmful to physical and mental health of people. Frequent loud noise affects the working efficiency of the people and persistent noise pollution causes a loss of sense of hearing. Increasing noise pollution is a big threat to the health and fitness of the people. If the noise pollution is allowed to go unchecked, it may rob the people of their hearing capacity. Increasing number of vehicles on the roads, rising growth of factories, construction work, loudspeakers used on various occasions, rock and pop music, etc. are the various factors responsible for causing noise pollution. Noise control laws are openly violated. It is high time the authorities should rise against the danger of noise pollution. They should strictly enforce the noise control laws. The noise producing factories located in the residential areas should be shifted to far-off places without any delay. The use of loudspeaker should be stopped after specific time. Above all, public needs to be aware and cooperative against the danger of noise pollution because without public cooperation authorities cannot make much difference. It is earnestly hoped that concerned authorities will take immediate and urgent necessary action against those responsible for noise pollution to relieve the people from the harmful effects of noise pollution. Yours truly xyz

  • 34. ARTICLE SAMPLE COACHING INSTITUTES EXPLOIT STUDENTS BY ANURAG ADHIKARI Coaching institutes have mushroomed in every nook and corner of a city over the past few years. These so- called ‘temples of learning’ are exploiting the young minds just for their financial gains. The misleading advertisements given by these institutes act as magnets to attract the innocent, inexperienced students, who are seeking for sincere counselling and proper direction. Most private tuition centers and coaching institutes treat students just as commodities, instead of providing them proper direction in their scholarly pursuits and giving them individual attention. They leave them to their fate. The counsellor who is appointed to these institutes is assigned the task of filling the unpopular coaching programs with more students so that the institution can maximize its profits, irrespective of whether that particular program suits the student or not. These coaching institutes take advantage of ignorance of the illiterate parents by advising them to enroll their weak child in a crash course whereas he needs to join the long term program for being successful in life. The sole purpose of these institutions is to fill their coffers with money, not to look into the well being of these students who are the future assets of the nation. These institutions are like the ‘termites’ making the future of the nation hollow. The education department of the government should be vigilant and stop these coaching institutes from exploiting the innocent students. Stringent laws should not only be made to stop these institutes from spreading their tentacles in the society but the guilty who playing with the future of the students should be brought to task. Parents should also be vigilant while admitting their children to such coaching centers.

  • 36. FAREWELL SPEECH SAMPLE Good evening Principal Sir, teachers, adorable seniors and my dear friends, It seems like just the other day when we were all talking about [the batch you are saying farewell to]'s farewell as they move on to [insert a few specific details here]. I remember thinking that it would be hard to say goodbye ... and I was right - it is hard. Yet I consider myself fortunate to have got an opportunity to interact with such a smart and intelligent batch... a batch that we care so much about ... that it makes saying goodbye to them hard! You were always there when we needed you and supported us with best of your advice. We will remain indebted to you all for your able guidance. As we say goodbye, we remind ourselves that farewells are not forever, nor are they the end. They are simply words to say that we will miss you dearly and that we will remember you fondly. Although we may be separated by time and distance in the interim, nothing will diminish the important role that you have and always will play in our lives. We wish you happy adventures, fantastic new friendships, amazing experiences and the journey of a lifetime. Richard Bach says, "Can miles truly separate you from friends? If you want to be with someone you love ... aren't you already there?“ And so it is ... and always will be with you as we carry you always close to our hearts. May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand - Irish Blessing Thank you.

  • 38. DEBATE SAMPLE Good afternoon Chairperson, time-keeper, adjudicator, fellow competitors and members of the audience. My name is Rohan Mehta and today I will be persuading you that children should not be on social media. Firstly, I’ll be mentioning just how easy it is for people to hack into an account and invade your private life. Secondly, social media can encourage cyber-bullying and expose children to inappropriate information. Children are extremely vulnerable these days with the amount of freedom they are given but add to that their vulnerability on line, this is exacerbated. Children are online and their lives may be totally exposed. Hacking means to gain unauthorized data through a system or computer. This is effectively stealing information from someone’s social media account, for example: their address, phone number, school and even bank account details. Hacking into one’s social media account nowadays is unfortunately a very common occurrence and can cause untold destruction to a person’s life. For example: Money could be stolen from them or their information could be used for negative purposes. Often people post on another person’s account pretending to be them. This can lead to bullying and can cause serious stress to the individual. The opposition may argue that apps nowadays are very secure and safe. When you delete some mistakenly posted picture or information, you assume it is gone and there is nothing to worry about…but it is NEVER GONE!! As I mentioned earlier password security is an issue. People may have personal messages or information that has been shared in confidence stored within their social media accounts. If they have not secured their privacy settings their messages and shared pictures could be on view to anyone in the public. Privacy settings on these apps are often very difficult to find and use. Children especially may not think of trying to find them when setting up their accounts. This means the content on their apps is visible to people all over the world. This proves that social media is not only a bad idea but is seriously dangerous. Thank you for listening to me who spoke to you about how social media can influence bad behaviour, encourage cyber bullying and leave children open to having their accounts hacked. We hope that all of these points make you realise how dangerous Social Media is to vulnerable children and we urge you to agree with us that social media is NOT a good idea. Thank you.
