Working Title: Go Fishing
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
The age range for my audience are young people aged 16-19. Video games are very popular across this age
range and the surrounding ages. In fact, the span in variety of ages that have played or play video games is
expanding, with younger children starting to play them and older people playing them for more years than in
the past. While generally, video games are seen to be more popular with boys than girls, although popularity
with girls for more ‘boyish’ games are increasing, I can see this game being more popular with girls or more
‘feminine’ genders. This is largely due to the fact that it isn’t the style of modern games generally aimed at
boys. However, the older retro styles of games were popular among both genders so it could appeal to both.
This game would be available to almost all social statuses, depending on if they own a computer with internet
access or a smart phone (since I haven’t decided the platform yet), and since it is only a game, a person’s
psychographic and demographic perspective shouldn’t have too much of an influence if at all.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the Audience
Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to content (why
would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
During the Irn Bru rotation, I was able to make an advergame that I can use as my experience to help me
when creating this video game. Although my advergame was a side scroll and this game is not, I will still be
able to use my experience in drawing pixel art from that and the other different experiments I did too. Around
Halloween, our class also did some pixel art experiments and the one I created last week; I’ll use it as
inspiration to help with structuring my game world that the player can explore and survive in.
Review your progress throughout the year- what video game and Photoshop skills and knowledge have you
acquired? How will you use those skills?
What was your advergame and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my video game is that the player controls a penguin character to care for their egg as it
hatches into a chick and starts to grow. The player has to explore the icy world to find fishing spots to keep
themselves and their chick fed. But they must also be wary of predators that try to eat the character. If the
player manages to keep their character safe and gather enough fish to feed both penguins, which increases as
the chick grows, or if the player must leave to save its life then the penguin goes back to the colony of other
penguins. There the player swaps roles and has to do the job of protecting the chick while the in-game partner
goes for fish as they would in real life. This I already have some prior knowledge to so less research if any will
be needed for that, along with potential predators. Depending on which gender of penguin the players chooses
to start with depends which role they start with playing. Different parts of the game can unlock items to
customise the penguin and the partner for extra interaction with the player. There may also be a multiplayer
option where each person plays a penguin.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan to evaluate my work by comparing how each part of the game is drawn and edited compared to how the
concept is in my head and written down. Whether it went the way it was planned and if not, how was it
changed? Did that make it better or not as good? I’ll also compare it to the current products already existing
and how they have influenced my final product.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production Reflections)
and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your study/media career?
