This document provides a pre-production assessment for an animation project. It will involve creating animated scenes and characters set in a fantasy town. The creator will work independently from home and college, using available computers, software like Photoshop and Premier Pro. Storyboards and a shot list are included detailing the scenes and characters. Music will be created in Noteflight. Health and safety precautions like taking breaks are considered to prevent eye strain or back pain from long periods at a computer.
3. Locations
• My two locations will be at home
and in college. There is no cost to
access either of these locations
and I am able to get to both easily.
The only limitation to accessing
college would be if there is
extreme weather and the college
bus doesn’t run.
• I have chosen animation so that I
am able to complete it all at home
or in college, so I do not have to
worry about travel costs or getting
a lift.
4. Equipment
• I need a computer and Photoshop to complete this
project. Both of these things are available to me at
college and home. Any time I am in a lesson I am able to
access a computer and Photoshop, if I am in college not
in a lesson I can access a computer but not Photoshop. I
can access a computer and Photoshop both at home.
• At the end of the project I will need Premier Pro to merge
all my animations together – I can access this at college
and home too.
5. Facilities
• Photoshop is used to create the animation
and art and Premier Pro is needed to edit this
together, alongside a music-making website. I
will potentially use Noteflight to create the
score for the trailer as I have a lot of
experience working with this website and find
it easy to use.
6. Personnel
• I will be working almost completely alone. I will use
friends’ input to aid my decisions in stylistic choices.
This does not cost anything; and I am able to access
them nearly all the time so will not have any
detrimental effects. If they are slow to give feedback, I
will be able to continue with a different aspect of the
project as it is not pivotal to my project.
• I have chosen this project so I am able to work alone as
I found with the music video and audio projects that
waiting for other people's schedules to work with mine
slowed down production a lot.
12. Shot List/ Script
• A zoomed in shot of a duck in a pond
• The shot zooms out once then again – the pond is in a town, there is a few buildings – two houses and a café with a
table and chairs outside.
– The café will be pink and the two houses grey and brown to indicate the café is a place of interest and also
connotes love and kindness
• A black screen saying 'explore the world'
• The main character, female, walking up to a gothic NPC outside a dilapidated house on the edge of town near a forest
– The house will be red bricks to show that is traditional and homely despite being overgrown
• The goth has a speech bubble saying 'long time no see'
• Then 'I'm hungry'
• An open suitcase covers the scene with items in it – representing the characters inventory
• The selector highlights a few before selecting an item
• The scene appears again, and she says 'this is perfect, thank you! Take this'
• A montage of different trading items against a farm landscape, town and beach
• A black screen saying 'trade with the townsfolk'
• The main character and a baker NPC are inside the café, he says 'things have been difficult since the accident'
– The baker is wearing a pink apron so the viewer can link him to the café and, as well as the café, see he is kind
and loving
• A black screen saying 'revive the community'
• There is a shot of a dragon over a cliff, wings spread in the air
– the dragon will be mainly a soft-toned colour, probably a cream with a secondary colour of green. The cream will
imply the dragon is not evil, the green representing nature
• Then a shot of a necklace in a chest – glowing
– The gemstone in the necklace will be purple to represent spirituality
• A black screen saying 'find your purpose'
• The screen fades to 'Cosy Trading: Coming soon'
13. Sound Effects/Music
• Create music on Noteflight
– I am planning to create a piece for the trailer and also
a separate piece that will be included in my project
that will be an excerpt from the game score.
• Potential sound effects:
– Footsteps
– NPC interaction
– Creatures
– Speech appearing
16. Production Group Info
• There will be no other contact information
needed as I am working solely on this project
without assistance from a group.
17. Locations
• I will not be filming anything for
my project and just animating so my
locations will be at home and in
college. I do not need permission from
any locations or persons as all my
work will be digital.
• College is available to me Monday-
Friday but I will mainly be using this
space Monday-Wednesday when I will
be in class, unless I decide to come in
on an extra day. The time I am able to
be in college will be 9:00 - 16:30. The
college bus is available to me on any
day I wish to come in and I am able to
access food, drink and toilet facilities
easily.

19. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Eye Strain Taking consistent breaks throughout long
periods of using screens
Neck and Back problems from bad posture To aid with eye strain breaks, moving about
every so often during usage of computers
would be beneficial
Headaches Hydrating consistently, away from the
computer, and taking breaks from screens
Burnout Taking breaks to do something
enjoyable/relaxing
Damage to equipment Keeping food and drink away from equipment
and handling equipment carefully
Editor's Notes
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost, weather? How will you manage this?
What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly from college, but who do you need to speak to get this kit? What is available? When?
Look at equipment hire places, etc
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other specialist facilities…? Software?
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available? Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them?
Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?
Black out all contact details as this will be going online, but you will still need to collect these.
