Shakib Khan presented on computerized cutting machines. He discussed that cutting is a necessary step in garment production to separate fabric pieces according to a marker. There are manual, semi-automatic, and computerized cutting methods. Computerized knife cutting machines cut fabric according to a computer program without needing a marker, using an oval steel blade that moves precisely. Laser beam cutting machines cut fabric using a high-powered laser beam in a fine spot, controlled by a computer, cutting at 13 meters per minute. Computerized cutting machines provide accurate, high-speed cutting but have high initial and maintenance costs and require skilled operators.
3. Fabric cutting
To make a complete garments, cutting is necessary. It means to cut out the
garment pieces from lays of the fabric with the help of cutting templates. In
garments industries fabric is cut from lay and spreading with accuracy and
properly which is termed as fabric cutting.
• Object:
To separate fabric parts from the spread of the lay according to the
dimension of the marker.
Requirements of Cutting:
1. Precession of cut
2. Clean edge
3. Infused edge
4. Consistency in cutting
5. Support of the lay
4. Types of Cutting Method
Fully Manual
• Hand operated scissor.
Manually Operated Power Knife.
• Straight knife
• Band knife
• Round knife
• Die cutting
• Notcher
• Drill
Computerized Methods Of Fabric Cutting
• Computer controlled knife cutting
• Cutting by Laser beam
• Cutting by Water jet
• Cutting by Plasma torch
6. Computer Controlled Knife Cutting Features:
• This method provide the most accurate possible cutting at high
speed.
• Marker is not necessary to put over the fabric lays during cutting.
Cutting knife is oval shaped & very hard.
• Sharpness is also high & blade is made of stainless steel.
• Cutting knife itself moves according to the direction of computer
memory.
• This m/c is CAM system m/c & works through CAD system
8. Cutting By Laser Beam Features:
• This method, fabric is cut by a ray of light in a very fine spot using a
laser.
• Radius of spot of light is 0.25 mm & high powerful.
• When the ray falls on a material, it generates heat on the material &
cutting is done by vaporization.
• Fabric is cut at a speed of 13 meter per min.
• Cutting head is controlled by computer
9. Advantages:
1.Very fast fabric cutting;
2.Very accurate cutting;
3.Cutting speed could be varied;
4.Cutting knife could be rotated and moved at any angle;
5.Suitable for large scale production;
6.Can be connected with computerized marker making;
7.Cutting defect is negligible;
8.No possibility of blade deflection;
9.Blade sharpening is attached;
10.Possibility of accident is lower;
11.No need of marker;
12.Lower labor cost;
13.6 to 8 times faster cutting.
