2. Pressing
This is a finishing done by subjecting a cloth to
heat & pressure with or without steam to
remove unintended creases and to impart a flat
appearance to the cloth or garments. Also,
pressing is done to introduce creases in the
garments. In garments industries, pressing is
called Ironing.
3. Objectives of Pressing
๏ต Removal of unwanted creases and crinkles
๏ต To apply crease where necessary.
๏ต To Sharping.
๏ต To Under pressing.
๏ต To Final Pressing.
4. Category of pressing
The garments may be different in types; especially,
different in design & garments material the pressing of
garments is categorized into five according to the garments
types ,designs & material are given below:
1. No pressing
2. Minimum pressing
3. Under pressing
4. Final pressing
5. Permanent pressing
5. Descriptions their types
1. No pressing: Some garments are available which have not the need
of pressing such as underwear, briefs, swimwear. This types of
garments are made by knit fabric.
2. Minimum pressing: some garments are available, which need
finishing done by applying heat but no need of pressure. Such as
Night gowns knitted T- shirt ,leisure wear and so on. This types of
garments are pressed by stemming and by flowing dry air to the
garments and called minimum pressing
3. Under pressing: To do help for sewing easily and beautifully, it
must need to minimum pressing to some parts of garments before
sewing is called under pressing. Under pressing is done to most of
the garments industry for making coat, jacket, and trouser and so
on.
6. Pressing Equipment & methods
๏ต The garments may be different in types; especially, different in design and garments
materials. As a result, it needs different types of pressing machines. Because, it can
not be done all types of pressing by the same machine. There are different types of
pressing machines & equipment used in garments industries for ensuring required
quality of garments are given bellow:
๏ง Ironing
๏ง Steam Pressing
๏ง Steam air finishing
๏ง Steam tunneling.
7. 1. Iron
๏ต At the ancient period, a small case, made by iron in which the heated coal &
wood is used by burning and the garments are pressed by the lower smooth
surfaces of case.
๏ต At present, these coal & wood are replaced by electricity and this electricity
and this electric iron is widely used in household purpose.
๏ต To control the temperature of electric iron, it is needed the regulator.
๏ต For updating and to do easy, Iron is heated by supplying steam Iron.
๏ต The steam inlet & outlet is controlled by a controlling switch provided in the
iron.
๏ต From steam iron, special air suction bed is used to control the unexpected
crease on garments.
๏ต This is triangular in shape and weighted from 1 to 15 kgs.
9. 2. Steam press
๏ต This contains a static buck and a head whose are shaped with each other.
๏ต The fabric is placed on the buck and the head is placed then on it and
pressing is done by applying heat & pressure.
๏ต The ironing bed is made by spreading the layers of fabrics on the buck
which is placed in a frame.
๏ต There is provided air suction & steam flow system through the buck.
๏ต The table is placed around the buck on which fabric is placed.
๏ต The head is placed down on the buck by scissor action and then pressure
is applied.
11. 3. Steam air finish
๏ต This type of garments finishing machine is known as puffer or Dolly press.
๏ต The dolly press contains a frame which contains from and the steam and
compressed air are flowed by pipe through the From.
๏ต The pressing from is generally made by heavy canvas fabric.
๏ต There is no sleeve and the usable form size is made according to the size
of body of garments.
๏ต Steam and air are supplied for a predetermined time by using a timer.
๏ต Normally, 8 seconds for steam supply and next 8 seconds for hot air
supply.
๏ต This type of fabric pressing is used for pressing T-shirts, jeans, pants,
Blouses, Jackets, Sports wear and so on.
13. 3. Steam Tunnel
๏ต In this process garments are pressed without any pressure.
๏ต Garments are hung on hanger and pushed into a tunnel containing
separate chamber through a running Rail.
๏ต Garments are heated on first chamber and unexpected crease is removed
from fabric by relaxation and gravitational force.
๏ต Garments are dried by hot air in 2nd chamber.
๏ต Steam tunnel can not fold any parts of garments.
๏ต This type of pressing is used for pressing T-shirts and knitted wears.
