Direct reports: Competition & Events Officer
Location: Head Office, Milton Keynes plus significant travel to and from events
Table Tennis England is the National Governing Body for table tennis in England. Table Tennis England
has recently undertaken a complete review of its strategic direction including a significant restructure.
All these factors will signal a major change in the growth and development of Table Tennis in the years
ahead. The competition and events department has also seen some very exciting developments.
Events are now being streamed on SportBible with highlights shows on Sky Sports Mix. We are seeing
continued increases in Sponsorship revenue, and exposure through broadcast and we are looking
forward to this continuing.
JOB SUMMARY:
To lead on the delivery of a national programme of Competitions and Events designed to meet the
needs and exceed the expectations of the Table Tennis Community in England through outstanding
Competitions. The key responsibilities shown below are indicative of the role but may alter from time to
time:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To take a lead on the delivery of Table Tennis England’s domestic, European and International
Competition and events programme.
Manage Annual Budgets set by the Competitions and Events Manager.
Have a good understanding of volunteer workforces and how to work with them.
Enhance the players experience of events using innovation and technology.
Have an understanding of live broadcast at events including Live Streaming and how it would
impact upon event delivery.
Support the recruitment, training and development needs of volunteers.
Manage the staffing of events including volunteers, officials and young persons.
Support new projects and initiatives as part of the strategic aims of Table Tennis England and the
Competition & Events team.
Set up and deliver events from initiation to completion, including directing professional and
volunteer workforce at events.
To support the delivery of other national and area competitions as required.
Attend a limited number of meetings as required for strategic development of the competition
pathway.
Provide a competitions and events information service that responds to email and telephone
enquiries.
Events will require overnight attendance, including weekends, throughout the season.

To undertake other duties from time to time as reasonably required by your Line Manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Relevant experience as an event organiser, ideally involving operational delivery of national level
sporting events.
Strong IT and Internet skills and a record of using social media for promotion of events.
Must be able to work effectively across all parts of the organisation and with relevant external
partners.
Must be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to manage a heavy and challenging work programme.
Experience of managing event budgets, bringing in revenues from sponsors and other sources.
Good negotiation and influencing skills and a solution focused approach to working cross
departmentally with other colleagues.
Must have a high level of energy and drive and the ability and willingness to travel, including at
weekends as necessary.
Desirable
Understanding of National Governing Bodies and how they operate
An interest in, and knowledge of, the structure of table tennis in England is desirable, including an
understanding of the stakeholders and funding mechanisms.
Experience of working within a small team.
