OBJECTIVE:
To obtain an experienced professional role, which will allow me to use my current
experience and knowledge, and to increase my skills and diversify my experience in
different types of projects and markets, allowing career progression.
PERSONAL STATEMENT:
I am a dedicated, enthusiastic worker with excellent communication skills, proven
experience in management, commercial and business development, marketing,
event management, budgeting and reporting. A continuing desire to improve myself
is paramount to me and I am extremely motivated and conscientious. I am a
committed team member, always willing to listen, and ready to input useful ideas. I
am proactive in taking on responsibility and I have the ability to diagnose and solve
complex problems and communicate the issues at all levels. I have proven my
dedication and capabilities throughout my time at the University of Gloucestershire
All Golds by achieving high praise, winning awards and positive feedback in my
appraisals.
EMPLOYMENT:
University of Gloucestershire All Golds RLFC: June 2012 – Present
All Golds Officer
A highly dynamic role that has given me a wide range of knowledge and experience
in a number of key areas;
Managing staff – I have gained experience of writing employment contracts,
inducting new staff members, completing staff reviews, developing CPD
programmes, and dealing with general payroll and human resources. I
currently co-ordinate a team of circa 50 players, Heads of Departments,
coaches, administrators and sub-contractors, and so have a strong knowledge
base of how to manage different personnel. I am able to effectively prioritise
tasks, delegate and maintain regular review even when under pressure. I am
also confident enough to seek advice from my superiors when required.
Communication – this is a key skill that I have developed throughout my
career as a result of face to face communication during employee reviews and
public speaking to hundreds of delegates. My job role has required me to
communicate with a range of audiences; delegating tasks to staff members,
reporting to internal departments, and reporting to external bodies such as
the NGB.
Event management - I have organised both regular and one-off events;
everything from weekly rugby matches in front of crowds up to 1,000 to B2B
events such as business breakfasts, hospitality days and conferences. I have
a number of event management skills and work well under pressure. I also
provide pre- and post- event reports to external organisations such as the
RFL National Governing Body and other regulatory agencies. These reports
cover health and safety, finance, match day plans, licensing regulations and
security requirements.
Marketing and advertising – An area that interests me greatly is marketing
and advertising. In my current job role, I have experience of developing and
implementing a successful marketing strategy. I was tasked with taking the
strategy from the deliberation stage all the way through to the final review
and reporting stage. Some of the headline successes of this strategy are;

o An increase in our revenue streams - in particular, our average match
day crowd attendances increased by over 100 people
o £1m+ AVE (Advertising Value Equivalency) for print media
o 10k unique website viewers a week
o An increase in Twitter followers to over 3.5k and engaging with 100k+
users a week
o 2k likes on Facebook to engage with10k+ people a week,
Commercial and business development – I have experience of developing
and implementing a successful commercial strategy for the All Golds. Using a
capture, communicate, and commercialise theory, I developed business
events and data capture processes for the club that allowed businesses to
engage with the All Golds on an informal level. After regular communication
and some innovation, I have achieved the following;
o An increase in turnover from £100k in 2012 to £300k+ in 2015
o Sponsorship from prolific companies such as Sky Sports, EDF Energy,
Renishaw, Smith and Williamson, Lifetime Fitness and Versarien
o A 78% retention rate year to year for sponsors and partners
Community development – I developed a strategy to promote the
community game in local schools, and establish a performance pathway to
the top echelon of the sport. Building a relationship with key sponsors and
private investors was key to develop and fund the project. With the project
now reaching 2k+ U18s a year, and numbers due to rise again, the strategy
has been awarded 7 years of funding from Sky Sports and a private investor
prioritising the following areas;
o All Golds Academy – funding provided by Sport England as part of the
RFL elite funding to run a further education programme
o Centres of Excellence at St Peter’s school, SGS Filton College, Halifax
Elite Rugby Academy and Wakefield College
o Sky Try project – funded by Sky Sports
o Three satellite clubs funded by Local government
Innovation – In my current job role I have to be innovative every day, as we
are a unique business model and facing the challenges of developing the sport
of rugby league in a rugby union stronghold. There are a few projects that I
am particularly proud of;
o I established an internship programme which is accessible to all
University of Gloucestershire students that uses the All Golds as a
‘vehicle for learning’. The programme creates opportunities for
students to apply their learnings in a real work environment whilst
strengthening their CV and earning credit towards their degree. The
success of the programme led to me being awarded ‘Employability
Champion 2013’ at the University of Gloucestershire Enterprise
Awards.
o Over 3 years I have expanded the club’s infrastructure from one
member of staff and a team of volunteers to over 100+ members of
staff, of which 58 are part time paid staff and the remainder are
volunteers and interns. To achieve this, I fostered relationships across
different University departments to create job shares and to engage
with lecturers who were able to identify and allocate students to
complete internships with us.
