Project Summary
Hyder Consulting Middles East
2012 – Date Hyder Consulting Middle East Limited – Assistant Engineer
In this role I have been involved in projects from Concept Design through to
Preliminary and to Detailed Design and to Tendering stage. Below are the
individual projects I have worked on.
Doha Expressway Group 5, Project PO60, PO25 and PO22
Project 25 – Al Khor Expressway
This project follows the existing coastal road from Lusail in the south to Al
Khor in the north and consists of the provision of approximately 26km of
dual 4-lane carriageways (with provision for a future 5th lane), 5 major
junctions, cycle and pedestrian paths and service roads.
Project 22 – Al Khor Bypass Expressway
This located to the west of Al Khor and consist of the provision of
approximately 35km dual 3 and 4 lane carriageways with two 3-level
interchanges.
Project 60 – Lusail Expressway
This is located within the Lusail Development Area from Peral Qatar in the
south to Lusail area in the North and consist of the provision of
approximately 19km road.
The three (3) projects is part of ASGHAL Expressway Programme Group 5
that will provide road with approximate total length of 80 km that will connect
Lusail Development area and Al Khor area in Doha, Qatar. The project is to
provide Design of expressway and other infrastructure that will fall within the
RoW of the proposed road.
Responsibilities:
Lead the Detailed Design of Dry services (Telecoms, Security
System Department and Qatar Armed Forces network) and Wet
services (Treated Sewage Effluent and Potable Water
network);
Coordination with other discipline to ensure an integrated
utilities, highways and structure plan for the project;
Liaison with the client and government authorities to obtain
stakeholder approvals from the wet and dry services related
authorities;
Conducting the final review of the designs to ensure the designs
is in accordance with the design manual and standards and
meet stakeholders’ requirement;
Providing technical guidance and shares knowledge with other
engineers (local and global);

Addressing PMC design review comments and implement
solutions to problems encountered;
Act as the prime point of contact for all wet and dry service
engineering aspect;
Providing bill of Quantities against the design drawings and
ensuring all items is in accordance with the CESMM guidelines;
Undertaking calculation for Thrust Block, Air valve and
Restrained length for the proposed TSE network;
Supervise drafting and encoding of the Utilities Detailed Design
Drawings;
Providing inputs on the Detailed Design report of Dry and Wet
Utilities and Pits surveys.
GEC Local Roads Drainage Doha North, DN106 Lusail Expressway
Temporary Outfall Solution
DN106 is a design of temporary solution that will serve storm water flows
from Lusail Expressway prior to completion of the permanent solution. This
project will serve an approximately 600 ha of catchment areas. The project
is comprised of pumping arrangements, refurbishment of existing pumping
station, storm water pipeline design and utilisation of an existing outfall.
Responsibilities:
Design lead on this project. Developed options to provide temporary
solution to serve storm water flows form Lusail Expressway without
increased in flooding on all affected catchments;
Providing Design calculation of system curve to aid pump manufacturer
in pump selection;
Preparing pump arrangement and piping connection details;
Designing of pipeline and checking for clashes in levels from the existing
utilities services;
Coordinating of all project concerns of each team with the Project
Manager;
Liaise with the relevant stakeholders to collect needed information within
the project area;
Authored the Technical Engineering Reports for the Commercial,
Preliminary and Detailed Design;
Supervised drafting and encoding of the design drawings;
Providing response to the design review comments from PMC;
Coordinating with PMC to closed out significant design issues;
Providing presentation to obtain end user’s agreement on the operating
philosophy of the project;
Coordinating with relevant government authorities to be able to conduct
a site inspection, data collection and field verifications;
Checking the bill of quantities against the design drawings; and
Preparing Tender documents;
GEC Local Roads Drainage Doha North, DN032 Al Sheehaniya Main
Town
DN032 project is composed of two local distribution site Al Sheehaniya Main
Town and Al Goan with approximate areas of 303 ha and 100 ha
respectively. The sites are situated approximately 32km North-West of Doha

Central within Al Rayyan Municipality Doha, Qatar. The project is to provide
Local Roads and Drainage associated infrastructure for the whole areas.
Responsibilities
Developing different options for concept design of foul sewerage
systems that will service the development for both areas of this project;
Providing Foul Sewer design calculations for pipe sizes and gradient;
Supervising the preparation and encoding of the design drawings;
Assessment of the existing foul sewer pumping station capacity to
determine whether it can still be utilise to accommodate the full
development of the Main Town;
Authored the Technical Engineering Report for the Concept Design;
Investigate the design details of the previous design Strategic Network
whether it will remains adequate if up to date foul sewage flows are
added;
Attending coordination meetings and providing inputs in response to the
design review comments from PMC; and
Communicating with PMC and client to resolve design issues.
GEC Local Roads Drainage Doha North, DN60 Al Kheesa and Al
Kharaitiyat
DN060 Project is located in Al Kharaitiyat in the Al Rayyan Municipality and
the Umm Slal Municipality west of Doha City. The Project is approximately
5,051 Ha in size and this includes the design and construction of a trunk
surface water network, trunk foul sewerage network and a treated sewage
effluent to serve the region in its future development.
Responsibilities
Liaise with relevant stakeholders to collect information of existing, and
proposed utilities services within the project area;
Developing utility corridor route for TSE main to avoid clashes with other
existing and proposed utility services; and
Preparing of Utility Corridor approval plans for TSE mains
GEC Local Roads Drainage Doha North, DN100 Al Khuraib Village
Concept Design Report, Doha Qatar
Al Khuraib residential area development located within Al Sheehaniya Area,
Doha Qatar. The project is to undertake a Hydrological study and Design
of Surface Water, Foul Sewerage and TSE for the whole area.
Responsibilities
Utility Design lead on this project;
Developing options to provide Al Khuraib a Foul Sewer and Storm water
system;
Undertaking design calculation for pipe sizes and gradient;
Undertaking storm water tank sizing calculations and soakaway
borehole calculations;
Authored the Technical Engineering Report for Concept Design;
Preparing Concept Design options drawings; and

Providing response to the design review comments by the PMC.
May 2012-June 2012, ISF Camp Infrastructure CPC-02 Preliminary
Package, Doha, Qatar: Design Review Report (Al Jaber and Partners).
ISF camp a military residential development located at Doha Municipality
with approximate area of 409 Ha that is planned to have a 345 buildings
with a total built-up area of 1,900,000 square meters. The project is to
provide a contractor a professional judgement and thorough analysis on the
improvement and value engineering of the Preliminary Design of Foul
Sewer, Potable Water and Stormwater System.
Responsibilities
Reviewing all phases of preliminary design of Foul sewer, Potable water
and Stormwater System including, overall layout, pipe routes, pipe
sizes, storage tanks and pump stations, velocities, deviation from the
design criteria and all aspect which can possibly improve and value
engineered the design;
Authored the Design review Report for the optimisation of the
Preliminary Design; and
Checking drawings for consistency and errors.
Duhail Camp PTP Gravity By-pass Sewer, Qatar:
Qatar Foundation – Desalination Plant, Qatar:
The project is to abandon the existing PTP that currently serves the
government facilities at Duhail Camp in the northern suburbs of Doha,
Qatar. The PTP will be abandon with the sewage directed to new gravity
trunk sewer.
Responsibilities
Providing technical inputs and assistance in the preparation of the
necessary Tender Documents; and
Drafting and encoding of various Tender Drawings.
