3. Early Life:
Pedro A. Paterno was born in Manila on February 27, 1857.
13th child and the youngest son of Maximo Molo Paterno and
Carmen de Vera Ignacio.
He belonged to a wealthy family.
He studied at Ateneo Municipal de Manila where he graduated
in 1871. ( bachiller en Artes )
He went to Spain and studied at the University of Salamanca.

Then transferred to Central University of Madrid and finish his Law
Degree in 1880.
4. Pedro Paterno as A Novelist :
He wrote the first Filipino Novel in 1885 and
published on 1908.
The Novel is entitled NINAY.
Written as a response to the accusation that
Filipinos possessed no distinct culture, Ninay
was written in the tradition of
costumbrismo, a movement in Spanish
Limbagan Nang La Republika Kiotan Bilang 30, 1908.
literature in the nineteenth century.
The Novel has 9 chapters Using the 9 day novena for the dead (pasiam).
" Justo Desiderio Magalang" his penname when he wrote NINAY.
5. Pact Of Biak-na-Bato:
Pedro Paterno is the mediator of
pact of biak na bato.
The siging of the pact of biak na bato
happened on december 14, 1897
Paterno helped in the
negotiations of the Pact of
Biak-na-Bato on December
15, 1897 and later wrote a
book about it.
