1. Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was a writer from Spain. He
was born in Alcalá de Henares on 29th
September 1547. He
died in 1616.
Cervantes was a happy, restless child. He left school at the
age of 16 and had various jobs, but he didn’t start writing
until he was 17. Eventually he went to live in Madrid. That
was where he met a lot of other writers and produced
interesting and wonderful books. In 1569 he met Juan
López de Hoyos. Juan López de Hoyos later visited him in
Madrid and they wrote a book.
During his lifetime Cervantes was successful with his work
and he sold a lot of books. But these days he is famous for
the work which he did in Madrid. One of his best-known
books is Don Quijote De La Mancha.
An English insurance company paid €1,500 when it bought
one of Cervantes’s books in 1572.
