+ Claudio is the oldest of four brothers.
+ His father died when Claudio was only thirteen
years old, which loads him with family and
economic responsibilities.
+ He studied baccalaureate at Claudio Moyano
High School in Zamora.

+ In 1949 he published his first poem in a local
newspaper.
+ He wrote “Don de la Ebriedad” when he was
17.
+ “I wrote most of the book walking .I knew the
book by heart and kept repeating, correcting,
modifying, when I walked in the countryside”

+ In 1951 he got a grant and moved to Madrid.
+ He met poets such as Vicente Aleixandre, who
will be essential in the professional life of this man
born in Zamora. Carlos Bousoño, José Hierro,
José Ángel Valente, etc.
+ A brief relation with the Communist Party cost
him a detention and confinement of several
months in Zamora.

+ In 1953 he met Clara Miranda with whom he
married in 1959.
+ Also in 1953, he won the prize „‟Adonais‟‟ with
„‟Don de la Ebriedad‟‟.
+ Five years later he published „‟Conjuros‟‟, the
work which confirmed the quality and uniqueness
of the poet.

+ He got a job as a reader in the UK where he
lived for six years.
+ Later he decided to return to Madrid, where he
worked teaching Spanish Literature to
foreigners.
+In 1965 he published „‟Alianza y Condena‟‟,
Critical Award in 1966.

+ His family , his classes, his literary and non-
literary friendships, his walks by Madrid, his
summers in Zarautz and his Zamora breaks fill
these years.
+ His writing pace remained slow, but his books
kept on being re-edited.
+ In 1971 C. Bousoño published the complete
works of C.R. Poetry 1953-66.

+ In 1976 „‟El Vuelo de la Celebración‟‟ sees the
light, and in 1983 „‟Desde mis poemas‟‟, which
brings his four books and which was awarded the
National Prize of Literature.
+ From then on he got fllowing recognition: Castillla
y León Arts Award (1986), R.A.E. member (1987),
Price of Asturias Award and Queen Sofía Prize
American Poetry (1993).

+ His work is admired, while he is still an example of
sincere humility.
+ In 1991 he published “Casi una Leyenda”
celebrated “unanimousty” by critics.
+ Claudio Rodríguez died in 1999, victim of a
cancer, leaving one last incomplete “Aventura”
