his study.

5. Types of Proposals
• Solicited proposals
A solicited proposal is when the sponsor asks for a proposal. They may ask
verbally or they may issue a written Request for Proposals (RFP).
• Unsolicited proposals
An unsolicited proposal is when you send to sponsor a proposal they haven’t even
asked for because you think they should take some action.
• Preproposals
Generally a short statement of your project objectives, methodology, intended
audience and estimated budget sometimes required by a sponsor in advance of
the submission of a formal proposal.
• Continuation or non-competing proposals
These confirm the original proposal and funding requirements of a multi-year
project which the sponsor has already provided funding for an initial period
• Renewal or competing proposals
Proposals which request continued support for an existing project that is about to
end.

project.

• Justify the proposed research scientifically, including theoretical motivations,
