The most confusing thing for newbies in the world of quality is quality control and quality assurance, here i am trying to explain the difference between the both
2. Often confusing terms in the
world of quality for newbies;
Quality control
Quality Assurance
3. Quality Control
Purpose:
To detect the variation or outliers in process/product/service against
intended customer requirements & it will not prevent the variation
Approach:
Reactive approach, actions are being carried out after the
detection of variation or outliers in a process/product/service
Tools & techniques used:
7 QC tools
Control plan
Inspection methods
Real time example of QC:
4. Quality Assurance
Purpose:
To prevent the variation or outliers in process/product/service against
intended customer requirements & the drive factor of QC team
Approach:
Proactive approach, action are being carried out well in
advance in order to eliminate the variation or outliers in a
process/product/service
Tools & techniques used:
FMEA
Benchmarking
Lean & six sigma concepts
Quality circle and etc.…
Real time example of QA:
5. QC vs QA
Quality Control Quality Assurance
Reactive approach Proactive approach
Detects the failure mode(error/defect) after
the occurrence
Detects the failure mode(error/defect) before
the occurrence
Gives warning once the failure
mode(error/defect) has occurred
Shut down or control the failure
mode(error/defect) from occurring
Low level contribution required to implement
QC
Management contribution is required to
implement new systems
Process of identifying/verifying/measuring
process/product/service deliverable
Process of identifying/eliminating the failure
modes of process/product/service
