Lesson 46 Stay healthy

Duration 30 mins
Skills Listening and Speaking; reading
Target Language ways of staying healthy; healthy/unhealthy food; healthy/unhealthy habits Grammar should/shouldn’t; Present Simple for habitual behaviour
As in the lesson before, use this slide to cover your desktop. You can use this slide to elicit the lesson number and the lesson topic.
It is always a good idea to ask the child when the class begins: ‘Can you see me?’, ‘Can you hear me?’ and ‘Are you ready?’ and elicit a Y/N answer.
The purpose of this slide is to introduce: ‘Hello, how are you?’ question. The possible answers appear on the next slide
Pre-teach: I am splendid/nervous/cross/surprised. It works better if supported by gesture. Then ask the child: ‘So, how are you today?’ The child hopefully will be able to pick one word and reply. If not you will have to ask: ‘Are you …?’
If the student is good you can extend the language by asking: ‘Why?’, ‘What happened?’
When showing this slide you could review the language from the previous class. If you had printed off the flashcards from the lesson before, you could show them on camera If not, you could paste the flashcards from the class before here.
This slide is to introduce the topic of the lesson, every lesson will follow the same structure from now on. There will be a starting slide, followed by ‘Hello, how are you?’ and answers. There will be flashcards at the end.
Show the child the two hearts and elicit the difference. Ask: Which heart is healthy. The answer appears on click.
This slide presents some of the healthy habits. Ask: What should we do to stay healthy? and elicit a response from a child before showing the pictures and presenting the target vocabulary.
This is a matching activity where the child has to review the language presented before.
Model the language: To stay healthy we shouldn’t … and elicit the response. Show the child all the pictures and encourage them to point to the unhealthy habits. Extend by asking: Which of these should we do? Which of these are healthy?
The purpose of this slide is to show different ways to stay active. Ask: What exercise is good for you and elicit a response before presenting the target language. Extend by asking: Do you know any other ways to be active. You might want to teach: active/inactive.
Ask the question on slide.
The slide focuses on the importance of exercise. Elicit the response by showing the picture first then model the target language.
You can ask: Why else is exercise good for health? And point to the animation on slide. Model: Because you do not get ill.
This slide teaches the concept of 5-a-day. Ask the question on slide, then count the fruit and vegetables together with the child and elicit the correct response.
This slide encourages the student to identify healthy foods. The correct pictures are circled on click.
Other questions to ask:
Do you know any other healthy foods?
How often/many/much do you eat/drink …?

These slides should be used as flashcards for vocabulary presentation/revision. You can either print them off or use the slides.
I usually print them off so that I can use them for revision in the next class.
