2. GENRE-
THRILLER/HORROR
For me to make the best trailer I possibly can I
decided to make my trailer to suit the genre of the
thriller and also the horror.This is because the two
genres as a whole always attracts audiences and
also excites them of any age.
I wanted to create a trailer that takes the best
pieces from both genres such as being able to
terrify the audience but also thrill and captivate
them by creating terror but also anticipation.
I want the audience to be able to emotionally
connect to the plot and also the characters since
the two genres heavily play on the audiences
emotions. My main aim is to give the audience a
level of anticipation, uncertainty, surprise and
terror.
Two prime examples of what I am trying to create is
the films of 'the conjuring' and 'A walk among the
tombstones' both being the thriller and horror
genre.
3. AGE RATING
I spent the time to look into the different type of age ratings that
could be given to my movie trailer and looked into the features of
them on my blog. After much thought and consideration I finally
decided to certify my movie as a 15 because of the film having a
much more mature content and violence.
I decided not to rate the movie an 18 because I did believe that by
giving my movie this rating it would be too extreme and would also
restrict members from the audiences from watching it. As well as
this I thought by branding it a 12 would be too restrictive on what I
could create.Therefore the 15 rating gives the perfect middle ground
for content and audiences.
The age rating of 15 gives me the perfect amount of freedom to be
able to create what I want to create on the level I want to and also
enables me to create something that can be enjoyed by a suitable
audience.
4. PLOT
The year is 2050 and tensions within the world are at an all-time high after various
terror attacks and wars, the known world seems to be slowly dying out. A retired high
level MI6 agent (James Alexander) begins to notice that these events are not all as they
seem. He begins to research murders and attacks and starts to realize that there is a
connection and various patterns within the scenes. After digging to deep and finding
out to much information he mysteriously goes missing leaving behind a teenaged son.
James's son, Roman reaches his 18th birthday and receives a letter telling him about
him about his father's work. He decides to take a look into his father's work becoming
obsessed trying to find out what happened to his father and solve mystery that has
been plaguing the world for centuries.
After making the discovery he needs connecting all the dots he discovers the 'order of
salutis' (order of salvation) who have been behind various kidnaps and murders in order
to bring salvation to the world and cleanse it, he now knows he must expose this
group. On his way home a man walks into him giving a letter telling him about his
father's whereabouts and where to find him. Fooled into going to the place he is tricked
and kidnapped by the group. He is taken to their lair where he discovers human
experiments as well as numerous gases and drugs. He is experimented and tortured.
5. PLOT (CONTINUED)
Roman finds some of his father's old work collogues from MI6 within the compound and
after days and nights within the compound learning its security and setting they
orchestrate an escape plan to which they succeed.When they reach the safe house they
realize they are in a do or die situation and so decide to take the fight to the group.
Meeting the group at the entrance to the compound onOctober 30th.The group battle it
out with Romans companions getting taken out one by one.
Roman and the ring leader (the cleansed) battle one on one until Roman finally over
comes the ring leader. But it is revealed in his dying moments however that the group is
much larger then he thought with links to world governments and world religions with
hundreds of figures exiting the compound surrounding the compound chanting 'cleanse
and salvage'
And so the movie ends with the discovery that this group is much bigger than originally
thought and that by killing one ring leader Roman and the world has only dug deeper into
this web of mystery getting and darker and more unsafe.
6. ACTS OFTHE FILM
First act:The main characters fathers disappearance and the main character taking up his investigations
learning more and more about the group gaining him more knowledge and understanding but also more
enemies. This act of the movie would revolve around the main character just basically piecing all the
information together so that he and the audience would have more knowledge about this group so that
future acts are more impactful.
Second act:The main character is now being hunted by the group and is kidnapped by the group where he
is taken to their hide out where he is experimented, tortured and more with.Trying to physically and
emotionally destroy the main character like they have done with so many others.After many nights the
main character meets two people in the cage beside him and hatch a plan to escape; which they do.
Third act:This is the ending act of the movie and so is the most impactful.The main character and his now
two companions now stealthily return to the hideout with cameras and weapons.Their aim is to take out
the ring leader of the group and so effectively ending the groups growing shadow over the city.This act
will be the most impactful and most intense.The ending is something I really like as it will feature the big
omg wtf moment that will lead audiences engaged and griped and will turn their knowledge upside down
as they main character will realize that the group isn't as small as first thought with it having political and
religious influence. As the main character thinks he has ended it all it is only revealed its only just began as
the group is far larger than he thought.And so has only gotten himself further in the worlds mysterious
and webs.
7. PROPS
Within my trailer I am going to have a variety of props that will be used to
advance the feel and tone of the trailer and the characters:
I want my main antagonist group to be masked, this is for a variety of
reasons such as simply it makes them more menacing and creepy because
no one knows who is behind the mask. It also means the audience cannot
connect with them on a human scale because they cannot see the features
of a human so in a way it hides their human features disconnecting them
from the audience.
The main group will be wearing just a simple white mask this is done just
because I find the simplicity of the mask more harrowing and its lack of
facial features/expression more unsettling. I feel the white look goes with
the aim of the group to 'purify' the world and the mask being colored
white.
The ring leader of the group will wear something more distinctive in the
form of a plague doctors mask.This is done as it is a well-known mask and
is something that was historically feared and frightening and so it has a
past and audiences can in a way get a back story. I picked this type of mask
because it goes very well with the idea of the antagonist groups aim to
cleanse the world and cure it of its sickness and weakness so this mask
perfectly goes with that creating a clear connection with plot and
character.
8. CASTING AND
SETTING
For my main character I need someone who is reliable
and is also able to fit my brief for the character. When
finally deciding who I would pick I came to the
decision of casting AdamTooley.
Adam fits the brief for what my main character will
be, he is in his teens and is reliable and dedicated to
acting especially from studying A-level. I know Adam
is someone who can do what I need for the character
but also bring his own talents and experience to the
role.
There of course more roles I will need to fill like extras
and other character roles that I need to fill.
When picturing a main setting for my trailer I have
effectively picked the licky hills forest and surrounding
areas especially the licky castle.These places as
setting will fit in well with the genre and create that
perfect tone and scenes that I need and want.
