SHORT FILM IDEAS.
WORKINGTITLE- LOST
 Tagline:You may be lost but you’re never alone.
 The length of the film is going to be between 5-10 minutes long.
 Character 1 :
 The first of the two characters in my short film is a male in there late teenage years who
medium height with brown hair, they are quite a reserved character who isn’t that open
and we don’t learn a lot about then throughout the film.
 Character 2:The second character in my short film is another male character who is
similarly aged to the other male in the short film, they are a bit more of a outgoing
character and aren't as reserved as the other male character, however ultimately like the
other character we don’t find a lot out about them before the climax of the short film.
ACT 1
 Act 1 consists of meeting our two characters who find themselves ‘Lost’ In a
never-ending forest, the scene for the opening act has our two characters set in
separate locations in a forest with no recognition of why they are there. They
awake and rise from the ground and the two characters start to explore the forest
and try and start to piece together why they are there and how they got there. As
the act progresses the characters start to hear rustling and rattling of trees and
bushes around them and become self conscious that they are not alone .
ACT 2
 Our characters start to discover signs of other life being out there and start to
question what is out there, the characters unknowingly are moving closer towards
each other and closer to answers, however the two characters are still trying to
question who they are and why they are in there position, after hearing what
sounds like screaming our characters start to shout out trying to hear someone or
something reply to them. And throughout the middle section of the film the two
characters start getting flashbacks and glimpses of a life that they maybe use to
have while being tortured by the enclosing environment of the forest.
ACT 3
 The final act consists of our characters discovering each other and ask them the
questions they’ve being asking there selves, however after a period of relief for
the two characters who are now not alone they start to question the chances of
someone else being out there or something else…
 The two characters try to make there way out of this seemingly never-ending
forest but cannot find away out of the cascades of trees and start to become
hopeless with the noises around them increasing and amplifying, and after awhile
they start to hear a creature stalking them like a predator, our two characters
discover a way to escape the forest but is it too late?
STORYBOARD OF OPENING SCENE
SCRIPT FROM OPENING SCENE
 Character 1:Why am I here? (muffled voice) Character rises from the ground
 Character 2: Hello? (Shouts)
 Character 1:Where am I?
 Character 2:What is this place?
 Character 1: Anyone out there? (Shouts)
FORM AND STYLE
 The genres that I am aiming for with this short film is dystopian and thriller because my
short film will in cooperate futuristic elements such as creatures that we haven’t seen or
heard of before, it will also be blended with the thriller genre as the short film will be quite
suspenseful with the level of suspense rising throughout the short film and will leave the
audience anticipating what will happen next. In order to film this I would need GoPro
cameras or cameras that my characters can wear in a point of view scenario as I want the
audience to be in the same situation as the characters and to share the feelings that they
feel. Other cameras required for this would include Cannon cameras capable of
establishing shots and over the shoulder shots.
 The mise en scene for this film is quite limited with a very limited amount of props that
the characters have, and the main location for this being a forest with nothing but the
trees and bushes that are in the forest.
TARGET AUDIENCE
 The target audience for this short film would be people of our age as they would be the
people most likely to want to watch a short film like this, however the target audience for
my short film would be quite large as it would have conventions from more than one
genre.
 I believe that my film is appropriate for my target audience because there isn’t a lot of
violence involved and if I included violence then I could be unable to have my film for this
target audience because if there was thing such as violence, gore, or offensive material I
could be made to make the film only available for an older audience as if It was open to
everyone then I could receive complaints from people who think that this film is
inappropriate for my target audience and I could then be made to take it down so by
having it not contain violence or offensive material then there would be little chance for
complaints and I could keep a good reputation with everyone watching my short film.
MARKET PLACE
 The film would be marketed for people of our age and would be uploaded to
YouTube where people our age could see it, I would upload it toYouTube because
it is free for me to do so and wouldn’t cost them mo9ney to watch it.I would also
be upload to short film websites where people who are into these types of films
can see it as people visit these types of websites specifically to watch short films
like my own.
 The film would be unsuitable to release on film as there wouldn’t be enough
people buying the film to make it worth while and it should be a film that is only
shown online and is free to watch for the audience.
IDEA 2: THE FIRST DAY
INTRODUCTIONTOTHE FIRST DAY.
My short film resolves around 4 boys who are attending there
first day of college and this short film follows there comedic day
to day life in college and the entertaining things that they and
other teenage students get up to in and out of school.
TITLE,TAGLINE, CHARACTERS AND
LENGTH
 The title for my short film is: A day in the life.
 My tagline is: What happens in college stays in college.
 Length: 10-15 minutes
 Jack: Jack is a teenage boy who is a little dumb and does stupid things all the time,
 Sam: Sam is the teenage boy who is new to the college and doesn’t know anyone
there and is immediately portrayed as a outcast until he meets Jack, Brad and
Chris. He is an intelligent person but is also at the same time extremely stupid.
 Brad:
 Chris:
ACT 1
 In the first segment of the short film we are introduced to our characters: Jack,
Sam, Brad and Chris who are four boys who are in college and we learn about who
they are, there personalities and what they get up to in there day to day life (Good
and bad). The first act concludes with us understanding all about our characters
having been introduced to them as they begin there first day of college where
Sam runs into some trouble with the younger years.
ACT 2
 Act 2 consists of the group of Jack, Brad and Chris being introduced to Sam and
accepting him into there group, Sam also learns who's in control in the college
after standing up to the college bully. After being insulted by a group of students
Sam decides to stand up for himself by confronting the bully after ignoring the
advice of Jack, Brad and Chris and ends up being threatened by the bullies and
having his belongings stolen from him.
ACT 3
 Later on in the day Sam, Brad, Chris and Jack are in Business together when Jack
shows off his pet Mouse which he takes out of his bag, after putting it back and
continuing with the lesson the 4 boys realise that the mouse has escaped Jack’s
bag and is sitting on the teachers desk. The teacher realises the presence of the
mouse and freaks out and faints with the four 4 boys laughing at the back of the
class, however after this happens the boys end up in the head teachers office and
the short film ends there with the 4 of them entering the Head teachers office.
STORYBOARD OF CLOSING SCENE
STYLE AND FORM
 The genre of this short film is comedy as it is a comedic representation of what
school life is like for teenagers but is slightly exaggerated as it wont be a
completely accurate representation of what school life is.
 The style of the film is going to be basic with the mise en scene consisting of items
that you would find in a school, the sound is going to be similar to that of a school
with sounds such as the sound of all the people in the school and school bells. The
short film is going to consist of a lot of dialogue between the main 4 characters In
the film
TARGET AUDIENCE
 For my second idea my target audience will be people who are in there late
teenage years and early twenties as the film will be intended for more mature
audiences due to the humour that is in the short film. With the short film
containing humour that could be inappropriate for younger audiences and in
order to keep my audience happy I have to aim it at an older audience in order to
keep them happy.
 I also want the target audience to be people our age because I feel like my idea
would appeal to people our age and they are a lot more likely to find it
entertaining than older people who may not be able to relate to my idea.
MARKETPLACE
 The market place for my short film would beYouTube as it is a platform that a lot
of people use and it doesn’t cost money to upload videos to it and you don’t have
to pay money to watch videos on the site. However with putting my short film on
YouTube I would need to specify that the film is targeted for more mature
audiences (Make it age restricted) so that the right people watch this film and it
isn’t given to people who shouldn’t be watching it.
 I will also put my short film on short film websites as the people who go onto
these sites will be people interested in short films and I can possibly receive
feedback and criticism from these people and then improve my film.

  • 18. STYLE AND FORM  The genre of this short film is comedy as it is a comedic representation of what school life is like for teenagers but is slightly exaggerated as it wont be a completely accurate representation of what school life is.  The style of the film is going to be basic with the mise en scene consisting of items that you would find in a school, the sound is going to be similar to that of a school with sounds such as the sound of all the people in the school and school bells. The short film is going to consist of a lot of dialogue between the main 4 characters In the film
  • 19. TARGET AUDIENCE  For my second idea my target audience will be people who are in there late teenage years and early twenties as the film will be intended for more mature audiences due to the humour that is in the short film. With the short film containing humour that could be inappropriate for younger audiences and in order to keep my audience happy I have to aim it at an older audience in order to keep them happy.  I also want the target audience to be people our age because I feel like my idea would appeal to people our age and they are a lot more likely to find it entertaining than older people who may not be able to relate to my idea.
  • 20. MARKETPLACE  The market place for my short film would beYouTube as it is a platform that a lot of people use and it doesn’t cost money to upload videos to it and you don’t have to pay money to watch videos on the site. However with putting my short film on YouTube I would need to specify that the film is targeted for more mature audiences (Make it age restricted) so that the right people watch this film and it isn’t given to people who shouldn’t be watching it.  I will also put my short film on short film websites as the people who go onto these sites will be people interested in short films and I can possibly receive feedback and criticism from these people and then improve my film.
