Credits and titles
1. Purpose of credits and titles
The purpose of credits is a way of showing acknowledgement of what the people have done to contribute
to the film.
Titles are used to intrigue the viewer and draw their attention to the film, usually causing them to go see
it. The title is also an overall impression of what the film is going to be about. Also a title is used to set the
tone and creates and expectation for the film. Sometimes film titles are used to convey the appropriate
genre and the time period. Overall it’s a small clue to what the film will be about!
2. Design of credits and titles
The design for credits and titles are there to attract the viewer, especially the title design for a movie. The
title’s have to be original and creative and they have to fit the genre of the film otherwise the title won’t
be as effective.
Credits are there to tell who was involved with the film, the design of them can either be simple or they
can be creatively merged into the opening scene of the film. They’re usually shown as text superimposed
on a blank screen or static pictures, or sometimes on top of action in the show.
3. Content of credits and titles
The content for credits and titles are there to show what the film will be like, for example when the credits
come up for the actors who play the main parts in the film and if they’re classic famous actors like Robert
De Niro people will suddenly assume that it’s going to be a good film because he’s one of the main
characters in it and the same for the film company which has produced it you’ll be able to tell how the film
will be.
