Project Firstline provides free infection control training for frontline healthcare workers. It was developed by the CDC in partnership with over 75 organizations. It offers various educational resources in different formats to meet diverse learning needs. Project Firstline training covers topics like PPE, hand hygiene, and COVID-19 transmission. It is available in English and Spanish online and can be integrated into existing curriculums. The training aims to help healthcare workers protect patients and themselves from infectious diseases.
2. What is Project Firstline?

• CDC’s NCDC’s National Training Collaborative for
• Project Firstline provides innovative and accessible infection control education for all frontline
healthcare workers – so they can protect their patients, their coworkers and themselves from
infectious disease threats.
• As a collaborative, Project Firstline brings together more than 75 healthcare, academic, and
public health partners to reach a wide range of healthcare audiences and settings across the
country.
• Project Firstline offers educational resources in a variety of formats to meet the diverse
learning needs and preferences of the healthcare workforce.
• Resources are designed using adult learning principles, educational best practices, CDC
recommendations, and the science that informs them.
3. • PFL is intended for students in the Allied Health Sciences to supplement
their existing infection control training prior to entering the workforce.
• We all agree infection control is more than just procedures. It’s a crucial part
of caring for and protecting patients.
• When students understand why it is needed, they will be prepared to face
the infection control challenges in their careers.
Who Will Benefit from PFL?

5. • The CDC-developed training materials cover infection control topics that can be delivered as
individual topics, or several related topics can be combined into a course.
• An example of a combined course would be PPE where we would review the topics of Eye
Protection, Gowns, Gloves, and Respirators because these topics are all related. However,
they can always be presented as individual topics depending on your learning needs
• Training can be delivered individually, using on-line self-guided courses in your learning
management system, or as a PowerPoint presentation in a classroom setting, whatever
works for you and your students.
• You can choose to deliver the group training using the provided materials, or we can
facilitate the session for you. We are available for in-person or virtual sessions, all FREE!
