The Concept of Self-management
Self-management refers to actions when people
are actively participating and taking responsibility
for their behavior, well-being and decision-
making (1)
The term ‘self-management,’ which is especially
connected to chronically ill patients, is frequently
used when functions are planned and performed
in collaboration with healthcare providers (1)
The Concept of Self-management support
• Institute of medicine defines self-
management support as “the systematic
provision of education and supportive
interventions to increase patient’s skills
and confidence in managing their health
problems including regular assessment of
progress and problems and problem-
solving support” (2)

The Concept of Self-management Self-management refers to actions when people are actively participating and taking responsibility for their behavior, well-being and decision- making (1) The term ‘self-management,’ which is especially connected to chronically ill patients, is frequently used when functions are planned and performed in collaboration with healthcare providers (1)
