1. Online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
in Population-based Infection Prevention and
Environmental Safety
Loyola University Chicago is a Jesuit University committed to excellence in education, patient care,
and social justice. We offer the nation’s first Master’s and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program
to prepare nurses for leadership in Infection Prevention (IP). The DNP is a practice-focused alternative to
a research doctorate. Designed for either post-BSN or post-MSN entry, online coursework and clinical
practicums prepare graduates to plan and implement evidence-based health care. Graduates are expert
practitioners, collaborators and infection prevention leaders who make a difference!

E-LEARNING Made easier
Students don’t have to be tech gurus to succeed in Loyola’s online
courses. Loyola uses technology to create a combination of individual
and group learning experiences that work with students’schedules.
Module Design: Courses are organized into modular class sessions
which contain online lectures, readings, videos, forum discussions,
assignments, quizzes, and extensive learning resources.
Depending on the course and faculty, students may also come together
online for live class sessions.
On-Campus Weekends
The DNP program requires two-day immersion weekends incorporating
coursework, seminars, and presentations held once each semester (Fall
and Spring) at the Loyola Health Sciences Campus in Maywood, IL.
Length of Program
The post-masters DNP program is designed in a cohort model to be
completed in two years, including summer sessions. The length of
the program varies depending on students’previous Master’s level
coursework; accreditation standards require 1000 supervised clinical
practicum hours post-BSN for the DNP degree.
Most students are working full-time and find that taking two courses
per semester is manageable. Students who are admitted post-BSN will
ordinarily need four years to complete.
Tuition 2015:
Graduate School of Nursing Per credit hour - $1,060.00
Additional expenses: Textbooks, fees, and cost of travel to four
