2. An independent cinema is where low budget films are
shown. They are usually more serious, and targeted at an
highly educated audience and the older generation.
Because they are low budget there isn’t much advertising
so people will go by critic reviews, and they will have
small audiences and that would be enough to make some
profit. An example of an independent film is ‘Tinker
tailor soldier spy’ which was shown in Cinema city 3
times a day at the most. It had a $39,694,989 gross profit
worldwide.

3. A mainstream cinema consists of high budget films with
well known actors and directors. These are cinema’s such as
Vue, or the Odeon which holds a lot of viewers at one time
and the films purpose is to entertain. Because it is high
budget they are able to advertise a lot, and is a push media
as they put their film in your face so it seems like a must see.
An example of a mainstream film is Twilight, because they
had loads of viewers, and the film was shown every hour
which meant it soon made a profit. It had a $701,989,889
gross profit worldwide.

4. Our film opening consists of both Mainstream and
Independent features, for example our film uses a
handheld camera with no famous actors or budgeting so
generally it would be classed as an Independent film,
however I think that our storyline and genre would fit
into mainstream cinema’s especially as it is aimed at
teenagers and they are more likely to go to mainstream
cinema’s.

5. We want our film to become a Mainstream feature film, so we would
need funding to do that. I think Working titles would be a good
company as they produce many films that are quite independent but
because they are partly owned by Universal this makes it more
professional and well known so many people would want to see it.
Examples of their films are; Nanny McPhee, Hot fuzz, Billy Elliot and
Johnny English Reborn. In order for them to be interested in our film
we would need good idea’s in order to sell our product/idea and
placing it on competitions online would also be a good idea as sites
such as ‘Filmaka- Global digital studio’ as this is a way for
undiscovered films to get a chance to make it to the cinema.

6. If we were able to get funding in a Mainstream cinema
company we would be able to advertise using push Media. This
would be stuff such as billboards, adverts, posters etc, because
its everywhere people go they would be likely to go watch it as
its pushing the product onto the person. I would like to create
a buzz like Cloverfield did with their advertising, so using viral
campaigns would be a good idea, for example using YouTube
and facebook as many teenagers use these. I liked Cloverfield’s
idea of how they used mystery in their trailers as all that was
shown is a date and the Statue of Liberty blowing up, this
makes people more inclined to find out more as they become
intrigued by what's going on.

7. When the film is in the cinema to start with I would put it in for 4
showings a day, one in the morning, two in the afternoon and one at
night this is because more people visit the cinema mid afternoon or after
school time. I would want our film to stay in cinema’s for about a month
before being released onto the internet and DVD, I wouldn’t leave it too
long as people may get bored of waiting and not want to see it however
if it was released straight away less people would visit the cinema to see
it which means profits would go down. I think a month would be long
enough as it gives people a chance to go to the cinema to see it on a
bigger screen and will be the highest profit month, but after that less
people would visit the cinema so placing it in shops would mean people
would still be interested enough to buy it so profits would continue to
rise, however when it goes onto the internet profits wouldn’t rise so
much because teenagers would be more likely to see it for free.
