INTRODUCTION
3. This is the age of technology. It is influence is being reflected in all productive endeavors
whether it be an industry or agricultural project. Education too, it being a developmental
endeavor aiming at raising the level of productivity of a nation has been very much
influenced by the message of technology. This message being maximizing the output in both
quality and quantity.
Educational technology refers to application of technology to instrumentation useful to the
process of teaching. Education should be considered a system in which men, machine,
methods, media and materials(5 m`s) are inter related parts. These parts are organized in
such a way that they work together in a pre-planned manner for the fulfillment of specified
education objectives . It is an approach helpful to improve and innovative education and
vitalize the teaching learning process. Educational technology makes education more
productive and more individualistic . It gives instruction a scientific base , makes instruction
more powerful , makes learning more immediate and provides equal access to education.
The technology includes many resources , one of the resources are e-resources ,web-
resources, social networking , educational blogs, e-journals, pod-casting, e-learning and web
based learning.
OBJECTIVES
- To offer greater opportunities for independent study.
- To reach them with an improved range of learning materials.
- To need to reach more students.
- To improve the quality of education.
- To provide lifelong education.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE
Educational technology is the application of scientific principles to education. It stresses the
organization of learning situations for the effective realization of the goals of education. It
emphasizes the designing and measuring instruments for testing learning outcomes. It facilitates
4. learning by controlling environment, media and methods. It involves input, output and process
aspect of education.
1-Social networking: - A social networking service is a platform to build social networks or
social relations among people who for example share interests, activities, backgrounds or real
life connections. A social network service consists of a representation of each user his social links
and a variety of additional services. Social networking is web-based services that allow
individuals to create a public profile, to create a list of users with whom to share connection and
view and cross the connections within the system. Most social network services are web-based
and provide means for users to interact over the internet such as e-mail and instant messaging .
Social network sites are varied and they incorporate new information and communication tools
such as mobile connectivity , photo/video/sharing and blogging. Online community services are
sometime considered as a social network service , though in a broader sense, social network
service usually means an individual entered services whereas online community services or
group entered .Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, pictures, posts, activities,
events and interests with people in their network.
2-E-Learning :- E-learning is the delivery of a learning , training or education program by
electronic means.E-learning involves the use of a computer or electronic device . E-learning
refers to the use of internet or wireless technologies to deliver a broad array of training
solutions. E-leaners access the learning from computer via the internet or an intranet or through
a hand held device like palm pilot . E-learning can be asynchronous and synchronous or it can
incorporate both drawing on the strength of each. Independent learning is by definition,
asynchronous. E-learning includes all forms of electronically supported learning and teaching
including education technology. E-learning is the computer and network enabled transfer of
skills and knowledge. E-learning applications and processes include web based learning ,
computer based learning , virtual education opportunities and digital collaboration. content is
delivered via internet , intranet/extranet, audio or video tape, satellite T.V and CD-ROM. It can
be self-paced instructor led and includes media in the form of text , image , animation ,
streaming video and audio.
Concept of: - Social Networking, E-learning,
Educational Blogs, Pod-casting, E-journals,
E-resources, Web-resources.
5. 3-Educational Blogs :- Wikipedia defines a blog as ,” A web blog is a web based publication
consisting primarily of periodic articles , most often in reverse chronology order .Blogging is the
posting of a journal like pages to a web site. While these pages can contain photos or media,
they are primarily focused on the easy ability to post written thoughts to a website. In a broader
and more educational system, blogs are about communicating we observe our experience,
reflect on it and then write about it. Other people read our reflections, respond from their
perspectives by commenting or writing their own blog article. Blogging is about reaching and
writing, literacy is about reading and writing, blogging is about literacy.
Educational blogging is blogging by students, teachers, administrators, industry experts
and other involved entities that focus primarily on the educational process and educational
interests. Educational blogging is more than just being about writing, just like writing is more
than just writing business correspondence or a lab report for chemistry class.
4-Pod Casting :- A podcast is a digital audio recording with or without image which instructors
can use to deliver content to students in an easy asynchronous fashion once generated ,
podcasts can be disseminated online through personal websites or podcasts directories.
Podcasting, is the name for this process is an amalgamation of “broadcasting” and the acronym
“pod” POD stands for “Portable on Demand” and was first used to name Apple computers
widely successful portable media player the iPod. Now the terms “podcast” and “podcasting”
are the part of the American lexicon and refer to the distribution of any downloadable digital
audio file that can be played on numerous devices such as computers, smart phones, iPod and
other portable media devices.
Podcasting is the ability to create or listen to audio or video content either live or
downloaded for later use. A podcast is similar to a radio show in that each show consists of a
series of individual episodes you can listen to on your computer or on a digital audio player like
an iPod. Podcasting involves the online publication of digital files (audio, video or other formats)
with in a channel to which others can subscribe and obtain updates. A podcasting is not
completely without potential drawbacks. Because podcasts have the potential for such rapid and
pervasive dissemination, maintaining student privacy may be different.
A podcast can contain any type of file audio , video , PDF or others feeds let you pull
information when you want it rather than having it pushed to you like spam. Podcasts use feeds
so people can subscribe to them with pod catching software like iTunes or juice. Podcasts are
different from web based audio and video files because their feed permits subscribing and
6. automatic transfer of the files to portable device like an iPod , letting people time and place shift
when they consume media.
Software for Podcasting
1- Audacity :- Audio only podcasts (free- windows /mac/Linux)
2- Garage band : - Audio only and enhanced podcasts (Included with OS-X-Macintosh)
3- Pod guide generator :- Enhanced pod casts (free- windows /mac/Linux)
5 – E-Journals:- Electronic journals also known as e-journals, e-journals and electronic serials
are schaloudy journals or intellectual magazines that can be accessed via electronic
transmission. In practice, this means that they are usually published on the web. They are a
specialized form of electronic document. They have the purpose of providing materials for
academic research and study and they are formatted approximately like journals articles in
tradition printed journals. Being in electronic form, articles same times contain metadata that
can be entered into specialized databases, such as DOAJ or OACI as well as the databases and
search engines for the academic disciple concerned.
Some electronic journals are online .only journals, some are online versions of printed
journals and some consist of the online equivalent of printed journals but with additional online
only. Most commercial journals are subscription based, or allow pay per view access. Many
universities subscribe in bulk to packages of electronic journals. So as to provide access to them
to their students and faculty. It is generally also possible for individuals to purchase an annual
subscription to a journal via the original publisher. Most electronic journals are published in
HTML and or PDF formats. But some are available in only one of the two formats. A small
minority publishes in DOC and a few are starting to add MP3 audio. Some early electronic
journals were first published in ASC II text and some informally published once continue in that
format.
E-resources: - An electronic resource is any information source that the library provides access
to in an electronic format.
Electronic resources definition
7. Resources on the research database web page are drawn from records in the electronic
resource module (ERM) for the purpose of the research databases web page these are defined
as online information resources , including bibliographic databases , electronic reference books,
search engines for full text collections, digital collections of data and data sets. These electronic
resources may be acquired by OSO libraries, as well as other libraries if licensed for the entire
Columbus campus, provided via ohioLink, free resources evaluated by the collection manager
and deemed to meet the above criteria. Free resources must have a bibliographic record added
to the online catalog before they will be added to the ERM and appear on the (Research
Databases Web) page.
Web-resources:- The concept of web resource has evolved during the web history , from the
early nation of static addressable documents or files, to a more generic and obstruct definition.
Now encompassing everything or entity that can be identified, named, addressed or handled, in
any way whatsoever in the web at large or in any networked information system.
The concept of a web resource is primitive in the web architecture and used in the
definition of its fundamental elements. The term was first introduced to refer to targets of
uniform resource locators but its definition has been further extended to include the referent of
any uniform resource identifier or internationalized identifier.
The term “resource” is barely used at all. The web is designed as a network of more or
less static addressable objects, basically files and documents, linked using uniform resources
locator (URLs)
A web resource is implicitly defined as something which can be identified, the
identification deserving two distinct purposes, naming and addressing the letter only being
dependent on a protocol.
CONCLUSION
Scientific inventions have influenced every aspect of human life. Hence education process too
could not remain untouched by these inventions. The computer is now being used frequently on
8. our teaching process. A large number of students eating at distant place can be effectively
taught by social networking, e-journals, Pod casting, etc …. Thus education technology increases
the output of the entire system of education.
