Motivation
Press StartKeith Harvin N. Sy
Grade 6 Social Studies
FIT 2015 Xavier School
Session Objectives
1. To frame the concept of gamification as a tool for
not only extrinsic, but also intrinsic motivation;
2. To frame the concept of gamification as a powerful
tool for student reflection;
3. To aid the participants in forming their own
“gamified” classroom management system
Gamification
“ The use of design elements characteristic
for games in non-game contexts ”
Deterding, Sebastian,Dixon, Dan, Rilla, Khaled, Nacke, Lennart, “From Game Design Elements to Gamefulness: Defining “Gamification” MindTrek’11, September 28-30, 2011,

EXP Bar System Framework
Character Creation ScreenStep 1:Student Selects the character’s final form
Dragon Knight Warg Rider Warlock
Each class/section you handle
will be choosing a game
character in its strongest form.
Let’s say your class selected the
dragon knight
The character received by the section will be starting off at its weakest level or child
state.
Patience child, you are not me yet :)
Novice Dragon Knight
to become your ultimate form, you need to go through other forms
or stages
Swordsman Knight
In order to reach the dragon knight/ultimate state, you have to level up.
levels up to become a... Then a... And finally a...
For the character to level up and reach its ultimate form, he/she will be
awarded an EXP bar.
EXP Bar:
Novice
To get an EXP bar, the character of the class will be needing 100 tokens.

The tokens will be obtained from the weekly self-evaluation using google forms.
Step 2: Students learn about “leveling up” in class
back...

by the teacher.
Step 3: Using Google forms for
self evaluation
Google Slides
Google Sheets
Google Forms
The tokens will be obtained from the weekly self-evaluation using
google forms.
This may be done in class, then at home when students are already used to
answering it
The tokens will be obtained from the weekly self-evaluation using
google forms.
Each question in the survey form will have a corresponding token reward,
depending on the student’s answer.

All questions have token rewards, Except for this qualitative and
reflective question.
Step 4: Teacher Analyzes Self-Survey of students using Google Sheets
Google Slides
Google SheetsGoogle Forms
Gamifying the Evaluation
The results of the survey are automatically and directly collated into a google
sheet file
Gamifying the Evaluation
The results of the survey will be exported and viewed by the Teacher in pie chart formThen the teacher will compute for the total tokens of the group/section using the
summary:
All you have to do is multiply the number of tokens to its corresponding number of
respondents for every question
= 20 tokensX
X = 60 tokens
Then do the same method with the rest of the responses
80 Tokens 70 Tokens
75 Tokens
Gamifying the Evaluation
A TOTAL OF 225 TOKens

Step 5: Using Google Slides, teacher presents to the students their accumulated number of tokens vs.
the other classes
