Mise en-scene
1. I have done my Mise-en-Scene analysis on the opening sequence of the film Adulthood. I used the
CLAMPS for my Mise-en-Scene, and that is me looking at the Costume, Lighting, Actors, Makeup and
Props. Firstly I looked at the costume of this film, there were two types of costumes in this movie
there were the local street boy clothing and gang stereotyped dressing with the hoodie saggy
jeans/tracksuits or there were the smartly dressed older men who were still in the dodgy business of
the streets of London. They too still participated in the ordinary dirty stuff that the youth do. I then
had to look at the lighting but there was not much to talk about with the lighting but there were
some shots shot at night to make some characters unidentified at night and the scenes shot in the
day time didn’t have much to say about the lighting. The actors were different in there various ways
because we had the young adults which were represented into ruff gang members and that are
typical stereotype of the youths in London. Then there were the police men who are standard in
London for seeing any young adolescent being dangerous which is seen as a natural stereotype in
the film. With the makeup do to a lot of fighting and gang clashes it caused a lot of blood, sweat and
tears. Characters were upset due to some events and that caused them to be quite pale and weep
some tears. Then on to the props, due it being a gang related film it was involved with guns and
knives, stabbings and shootings also the way youths were stereotyped by their transportation
method by them using bikes in some parts of the film. Finally, I looked at the setting and there
different sets. The main sets were the streets of London and the other few sets like, party scenes,
train stations and burial grounds.
